Back from Oncology Visit
As of now, I'm still not sure what the plan of action will be as she is ordering that test "Oncotype". Does anyone have any idea how much this will be costing? They said that Medicare will pay for this 100%. She said it takes about 2 weeks to get results back. If it comes out a low score, no chemo. If the score comes out highter than 16 (that's what I think she said....my daughter said it was 13), then 4 to 8 rounds of Chemo. Regardless, Tamoxifen is still in the picture. So until I see her in 2 weeks, I don't know anything yet. She was pleased that it was ER/PR Positive, HER-2 Negative, no lymph node invasion (13 taken out) and intermediate aggressive (2). The big problem was 4.5 cm tumor, or it would have been considered Stage 1.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed...
and if I was so able, I would cross my toes as well.
I never had this oncotype report. Is this something new, or do some people just fall into a general plan of action? It seems that several on this site had that report done and that drs have a considerable amount of faith in it. Well, I'm wandering here, sorry...
Wish you well Maryann.

Are you sitting down?
Good thing it is paid at 100%!! Are you ready for this? It cost $3500.00 to do the test. My old insurance has denied it but Gerome Labs are picking up the bill. So they basically bought a piece of my tumor for that much! Geesh...I didn't want it anyway! Maybe I should have auctioned it on e-bay? ANYWAY...you'll get a call from them letting you know that your insurance will pay for it. They are really nice. I almost didn't answer the phone because I didn't reconize the phone number. Hope your score is really low!! Pammy0 -

E-Bay...hmmmmm...not
Pammy,
E-Bay...hmmmmm...not a bad idea. Too funny!
Yes, I seen that it is a costly test. I think I read in the brochure it was like $3,540 or something crazy like that. I think I've been working in the wrong field. (Secretary at a church...Ha!!) Thank God I went on Medicare July 1st and they will pay 100%. I also was told they will be calling me anyway.
I know you're score came back significantly low, which is WONDERFUL for you. I hope I will be as lucky. Keep your fingers crossed.
Love,

I just know that my
I just know that my oncologist said that it was an expensive test so he would only have it done if he needed it to determine if I needed chemo. He said I would need chemo if 1) I had positive lymph nodes, 2) if I was her2 positive or 3) the oncotype had a high score. It turned out that I was her2 negative but I had one positive lymph node. Therefore, he knew I needed chemo so he did not have the oncotype done. I hope you have a low score on your oncotype test! Good luck!0 -
Maryann I'm really happy for
Maryann I'm really happy for you. That you have no node involvement is a blessing for sure. And it looks like the test will be covered, pretty good news all around....and you may not have to do chemo. Wow, that would be great! HOpe it all goes well.

So far, 2 out of 3. Hope your run continues and your score is low. Looks like you're a lady with good fortune on your side (is that because you have a direct connection to Upstairs?) Anyway, wishing you the best.

Glad you liked the doctor!
The lab that does the Oncotype DX test will call you to let you know that the cost is covered. They will also send you a letter with a pamphlet that further explains the test. The results of the test along with the information you already have will help you and the doctor to make your decision.
Mine was in the grey area. My doctor recommended that I go ahead with the Chemo for a couple of reasons. One of the tumors was over 2 cm and spread to the margins. There was more than one tumor. Also he considers me young at 47. The way he put it was why not take every precaution available to me? Even though the Chemo and of course the neulasta are not a picnic, I am glad for it and definitely thankful. We are empowered to make our own informed choices thanks to every single penny that has ever been donated for research. I hope you do not have to take this route but if so know that today's chemo is so much more tolerable than before! Good luck to you!0 -
