Wheelchair???
I am new to the website - and I am wondering if anyone has a transport wheelchair that is not being used anymore?
Is there someplace on this website for finds like this?
My mother in law is so frail but just insists on going out for a drive - she is all tired out just getting to the car. If I had a transport wheelchair I think it would help. Especially when she starts going for radiation again.
I am in the Baltimore, MD area.

We got ours through the insurance company, but you should check your local drug stores. I saw a light weight one at Walgreens recently for $50. I might even go get that one because the one my husband is using is really heavy and I have a hard time getting it in and out of our car.0 -

Fatima,
Our local American Legion overs them to lend, you just return it when your MIL is better and no longer needs one. The local ACS usually offers them used and has other local resources. Contact your MIL's Patient Navigator. Ask at the infusion room or onc rad dept.

I have not heard of patient navigator, yet.
I tried to visit the social worker at the hospital. She said to come see her after the first visit to the medical oncologist, but then when I got to the office she changed her mind.
I will have to look up the American Legion. I know that the drugstores have them for about $75 - $100. But that is a lot considering that we are paying everything out of pocket.
Thanks.

Fatima,
The local American Canzer Society office will have a Patient Navigator to help you through all of this. I'm in a rural area and the Patient Navigator has office hours at the local canzer centers. I go to a major canzer center in a city and ACS has the patient navigator there everyday. Hope you can locate one!

Ok - I will look into the patient navigator, thing.
I found out that the hospital I am taking my mother in law to for treatments offers wheelchair concierge service. I call when I am on my way to the door and they send someone out with a wheelchair to use for the entire time she is there. This fixes half of the trip for treatments, anyway.
Will keep looking for wheelchairs for regular transport, though.0
