*****Bill**** This is for you*****B12
Bill, please don't look at it as "charity" in the negative sense. I know how that can play on your psychy... Look at in the sense of the words true meaning... love.. people care enough to donate to causes that help others who come into a difficult time... at one time or another each of us has been or will be there.
I agree with an earlier post, contact ACS they have programs available to assist people with getting their medications. Also, talk to the social worker at the hospital where you receive your treatment. Call your local Department of Social Services office..(you may qualify for assistance with medical as a supliment).. I did some research this morning.... and made some calls... here is the web site that I went to:
I called the National Number for Medicaide.. depending on your income (I explained that you work only part time) you may qualify for state medicaide the number for the state of Florida is 888-419-4356 .. depending on your income, you may qualify for this even though you have "some" medical coverage and I use that word lightly....
Another number they gave me for Florida is an Agency caled Eldercare:.. Now don't get discouraged it is not solely for the elderly and I am not implying that you are "elderly".. however they have a wonderful directory available for organizations in "your area" that can help you find what you need... please give them a call and they can give you further information... their number is 1-800-677-1116. Scratch that number.. I called and got the number for your local office.. (had to go back to the "where are you from post".. yours is in Fort Meyers, FL their number directly is 239-332-3049. They weren't open yet this morning so I couldn't get more information for you.. but do give them a call and explain your situation.
Both of these numbers were given to me from the information number on the web site I gave you.. the gentleman I spoke to also suggested the number to ACS and offered me the number.. I assured him we already have that one.. lol
Looking up this information was no big deal.. I'm off on Fridays so it just gave me something to do!.. I hope some of this helps.
Best wishes... & hugs

Hi Bill,
I think it's time I introduced myself, "formally"! I imagine you have read some of my posts already, but in case you haven't I am Mike, I am 52 and have these lumps in my breasts for something 1-1½ but 1. waited thinking they would "go away" and 2. was in denial that it could be cancer until I started feeling other lumps in my Lymphnodes. I am scheduled for a Mammogram next Friday and I see a surgeon on the 30th. I am holding out hope that it ISN'T and everyone wants me to be positive that it isn't, but until I actually talk to the surgeon, it will be hard to to have faith, especially with some HIGH risk factors, including a sister that had BC in her early 20s and had "something" precancerous on her ovaries so they did a hysterectomy. My Dad has/had PC and 2 of his brothers died of PC. Everybody here has been very supportive concidering, I don't even the diagnosis yet and I figure even if I get "good" results, I will stay a member of the board, since even if if isn't NOW, it could be later, and I will still have the emotional scars of that possibility. Hope everything is good with your battle. Take Care & God Bless,
Mike0 -
Why are they waiting so long
Why are they waiting so long for a mammogram? When I found my lump, I saw the doctor the day I called and told her about it. She then, scheduled me for a mammo that same day. After the mammo was read that day, they scheduled me for a core biopsy the very next day. And, a MRI after that. I don't understand why they would risk waiting?0 -

JNL,
Mike is a veteran and the VA has to fee the services out so he has to wait which is a B i t c h until they can schedule with a facility which will take veterans because the VA hospitals do not do mammograms.
My experience as a non veteran. I had my scheduled mammogram in November and then called back two weeks later for mag views and then a week later for stereotatic biopsy(12/1). I was told on 12/8 that I had cancer.
Some places work differently and that is not the way it should be.0 -

Thank you, and yes it can be a B*T*H, but then again I also feel quite fortunate to have the "coverage" I do. I served in a period before "the middle-east" and a lot of the new guys and gals coming back are facing a whole different ball-game. The Government now tries to "limit their liability" and that S**KS!!! The waiting IS the hardest part... especially when you know that IF IT IS, it is still growing and since I am a guy and ignored it to start with, if it is then it is stage 4 and I have to partially blame myself, so how can I complain??? I am SOOOO GLAD I came here though, there has been SOOOOO much support for me and everyone that I can't imagine going through it without my new FAMILY!!!! Thank you all for you kind comments!!!
Take Care & God Bless,

Don't you have coverage thru your job? Why do you have to wait for the VA? Can't you just go to another doctor and hospital? Sorry, but this makes no sense. Why would you just wait? Most hospitals even make allowances for people that don't have a lot of money, if that is the case. Why are you just relying on the VA? No offense0 -

Mike,
I appreciate you being honest and I applaud you for the service you have done for our country. I do hope that you can get an earlier appointment or other medical attention. I know the Veterans Administration(VA) is a good place but sometimes we do have to try and seek care elsewhere.
I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted.

Awwwwww Mike. Sorry someone flagged you. I think for us women the idea of waiting so long for a mammogram is unimaginable.....we just wouldn't do it! We have free mammogram buses coming around all the time for people without resources here in Tennessee as I'm sure they do where you live. There is help out there, so it's hard to imagine just sitting and waiting for weeks just for the initial diagnosis. But you have your reasons, and it's your life, your body. You just have to understand that there is not one woman I know who wouldn't get the test done the next day no matter what the cost.
Good luck

Yes, you are absolutely correct, men wait and wait to see a Dr about lumps but you are headed in the right direction.
