We arrived in Holland yesterday afternoon. Before we left, we set up Skype (internet conference calling with video) on all the kid's computers. We 'talked' with both Hans' son and my daughter after we arrived home in Zwolle.
The flight was quite interesting. We reached LAX, and asked for any upgrades. The gal at the desk said there were none, because of our ticket status. Oh well, we had an aisle/next...our normal. So, we boarded, and across the aisle was a stretcher. That was great, we thought, because that meant no traffic during the flight. Then, our hearts sank. A HUGE woman was making her way to the seat behind Hans. Now, she was sooooo large, that they had to immediately move the gentleman next to her so she could wedge (literally!) into her seat. That left NO room for Hans to tilt his seat back...so, with true Dutch attitude, he got up to complain. Well, he was told that they would move her after takeoff. We sighed...figured that was just a story to start the flight, and then we would be stuck...literally..
Not so! They moved US, instead...to World business class! So, for the second flight in a row from LAX to AMS (the other was Christmas), we got the 'big seats'. The difference this time was that we got the full treatment, including steak and lobster for dinner.
I LOVE the chairs...I slept for 5 hours...We arrived in Amsterdam rested and well fed. I THINK I have convinced Hans that this is the way to travel...flights roundtrip starting in Amsterdam are so much cheaper, including Business Class, so we are discussing biting the bullet and buying two one-way LAX to AMS tickets to get us to AMS. Then, roundtrips from then on AMS to LAX. We shall see.
So today is relaxing, shopping for food and staples, and getting back to living in Holland. The weather is good...everything is so green! It is a bit cold for my tastes, and we have a handy man here now to fix the heating...he laughed when we shared that we just got in from Southern California...
More later, going for a nap...
Hugs, Kathi

I'm sending big hugs to you....
This is now going to be my 'other' home...3 months here, 3 months in America, 3 months here, 3 months in America...I can speak a bit of Dutch, but am getting better each day...just had a conversation with a gal in a store...all in Dutch!!! And, other than calling her boy an old man (no, just kidding!), it went well...
