Just how long are we meant to live 'In the Shade' after rads?

I was sprawled out on the deck yesterday doing my 'Starfish' impression. I got a nice bit of a tan and no burn. I am a year out of treatments now and don't want to carry on looking like Caspar!

Jamie and I went shopping this morning and I bought 2 pairs of shorts (Yeah, I have great legs...I'm told) and a lovely TURQUOISE Top!

Chuck is giving Jamie guitar lessons. Doing great. Hugs Jxxxxxxxxxxx

    Tan???????
Oh Tasha, I am sooo the wrong person to ask about tanning! I am way too vain to tan (and remember, LEATHER is made from tanning the skin of animals!) and I am not adding to the wrinkles age is already bringing to me. Add to that the real possibility of skin cancer and age spots~ NO No No!!!!! I wear a 50 SPF on all exposed skin all day, everyday~ I kinda like the Casper look, myself. It is a nice contrast next to the skin of my dark, Native man! :-) Tans are natures way of showing our skin is now cooked, getting dry and on its way to damage! Aside from that~ go ahead! LOL LOL

I know I am outnumbered by the sun worshipers on the planet, so no doubt you will get great advise on the Go For It But Don't Get Burned sisters in here! :-) Lather some glowing self-tanner on your gorgeous legs (gorgeous maybe, but are they 40'long???? hahahaha) and enjoy the wolf whistles!

    Hugs,
    Claudia

    Oh Yeah?????
As the kids say Tasha : " WHATEVER!!!" I never saw a cow with skin cancer either, but it can happen to us! So there~ LOL And, if I may say so, chemo does too count as chemicals, so we have all of the leather-making ingredients!!! hahahaha!!

Ok...get some tincture of iodine ( is that even still on the market or legal??), mix it with baby oil, slather it on your skin, lie outside in the mid-day sun ( isn't there a phrase about Mad Dogs and Englishmen???) turn yourself every 20 minutes, and by dinnertime you will look like a Thanksgiving Turkey! Again, NO I say~ a 1000X no!

Thanks for making me laugh, and I know you, you are going to do exactly as you please anyway~ and well you should! Post pix of you all glowy and TAN, will you???

    Hugs,
    Claudia

    ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now you have J worrying about the Daft Sods on this board!! LOL!!

J, I'm not sure when it is safe to tan after treatment. I still have the "tan" from my rads.
Otherwise, I burn easily, so I think I may avod the sun, at least this year.

    Hi Jamie!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hugs!

Count me in with probably the minority on this one...
I'm in Kindred Spirit's camp - all the way! Although I most certainly do believe this is a completely personal choice to make - to each his own. So, go ahead, J - brown yourself up. If it feels good, do it!

I tan very well, yet stopped at 30. At that time, under the regular care of a dermatologist who convinced me it was the worst possible thing for skin (she was somewhat ahead of the times, by the way).

Now, my med onc says to anyone and everyone who will listen... That his life's work is devoted to breast cancer. And, skin cancer awareness is his hobby.

    Sheesh. Doctors.

    Kind regards, 12/25

When I grow up I want to be a Jamaican!

Which reminds me of a joke...Which I daren't tell you. LOL

Hey Tash, well officially I think you are OK to "expose yourself" three months post radiation. At least that is when I am told I can resume sitting in the sauna of my gym. Man, I have missed that. But don't get too crisp, OK? Put on that sunscreen. Am I a, what do you call it -- a daft sod?!!

I'm with Claudia on this one
Just went to the beach for five days and my sweet hubby insisted I get 85 SPF. no problems there except I did miss a couple of spots. My knee, ankle and back got burned.
But sun in any extreme is bad for you, expecially when you have already had a cancer diagnosis, and you don't want to mess with the nice skin you have, do you Tasha?
I do the fake tan stuff on my legs because everyone in the office says they need blinders when I'm around, I am very very white.

    10 minutes of fully
10 minutes of fully unprotected sun a day is good for you, but thats it. After that it cover it up. I already have pre cancer cell on skin from all the years of tanning ( really burning )without good sun screen. I have fair skin so now I really have to watch it. However I was told thats the cells I have will not turn into full blown cancer.

    Tasha your to funny girl.
