Surgery Scheduled
Have to admit I'm shaking at the knees. I have ILC, 5 cm tumor, slow growing and positive to estrogen and progestron. Hasn't gone through the chest wall yet, and the only reason it's invasive is by microscope. Only have the right side removed. Hope I'm making the right decision.

good choice
I'm 32 years old (just had second child in April)and I just had a radical mastectomy. My margins and nodes were clear, but I still feel good about my choice. The type of BC I have is very rare and I don't want to have to have it reoccur. I've just been telling myself, "This is what I need to do to take care of myself." Good luck!0 -
Maryann
I remember going through all these tests in some kind of a haze..so many tests and decisions, it takes time fo it all to soak in..and maybe it is a good thing you are so busy, you don't have time to dwell on it to much..just take it one day or one minute at a time. I will have you in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs, Jackie0 -

It Is Scary
Good Luck Maryann - I know what you mean by scared. From diagnosis to surgery was just a little over 2 weeks. I had a lumpectomy on October 13, last fall,on a double negative tumor, which was growing pretty quick and the DNA genetic test showed it has a 34% chance of recurrence. They treated me pretty agressively and I finished 6 rounds of chemo and 36 radiation treatments as of last Monday, June 5. You do feel like you are in a whirlwind and that you do question your decisions. Trust in yourself to make the right decisions. Take care, good luck and know that my prayers are with you as you begin your journey.0 -

Hi Mary Ann
I know it is hard trying to decide what to do. We all have to make a determination of what is the right thing for us as a individual. I'm sure we all have moments of thinking I should have or shouldn't have. But we just have to take each step as it comes make the decision we hope is the best and go on. It helps having people out here to help cheer us on each step of the way.
I'll keep you in my prayers. Hope things go well and you can get on to the next step of your treatment and go on with the things that you want to do.
I think that is what all of us want to do is go back to a uninteruppted life. It is amazing how many hours a day are taken up with doctors, test and what ever else seems to pop up. Even when it is well organized it still takes a lot of time.
I had my first boost of radiation this morning and go back for the second one this afternoon. It has to be withing a six hour period. I felt fine after the first one I hope I will not be any worse after the second one.0 -
Surgery on the 23rd-you'll be in my thoughts and prayers...
Maryann,
I'll be thinking about you on the 23rd (in fact, I'll key your date into my cell phone calendar so I can pause a moment to say a prayer for you).
I had only a right masectomy (they called it a "radical", but I'm not sure how this is different from a nonradical masectomy). I was dx with IDC with ER+, and the tumors were fast growing. I wanted both breasts removed, but the drs told me that it would be too stressful. "Stressful?" I didn't understand why one was less stressful than two, but I trusted my drs. But, three and 1/2 years out, it seems that they knew what they were talking about.
The only challenge I have found with not having a bi-lateral masectomy is having your clothes look good on you when you want to look especially nice. But, I just make sure that I don't wear anything too fitted or with a low neckline. I didn't get a prosthesis (couldn't find one to fit that didn't feel too heavy), so I just ball up a sock (sad isn't it?) to make it appear more normal. Well, only those who know I had surgery can tell with that little ol' sock in there.
I am happy for you that things are moving quickly. Looking back, and reading the many posts here, I realize that the drs moved quickly for me, too. It's good to get this phase over with so you can begin to physically and emotionally heal. It's a long process, but we do get through it--and you will, too.
Know that many will thinking and praying for you and, as you know, there is strength in numbers.
