Hemorrhoids
John, I had severe hemorrhoids before I was DXd...it masked the cancer for a year. I found sitz baths very helpful. I tried Prep H, but then my doctor gave me a prescription suppository (I can't remember what it was!) that worked better. Mine were internal AND external and quite large. My surgeon removed them all when I had my resection.

Hi John. If over the counter stuff doesn't work, the doctor gave me a script of proctosone cream, works really well if you use it consistantly. I take a script stool softener also, keeps it soft so you don't strain so much and aggravate them, also drink lots of water, and some good fiber helps.

Hemmorhoids
A Sitz bath is an easy thing to buy (WalMart, Drug Stores, etc)
and every easy to use. I definitely found it soothing when my rear end was driving me crazy. Put it on top of your toilet seat, add the water, read a book so you don't get bored while your 'hiney' gets water-wrinkled!!!!
If your G.P. can't help you -- ask him to send you to a Specialist!!
Some people recommend putting in the water a bit of baking soda, or cornstarch (like they used to do when we had measles!!!!) You could even ask the Pharmacist what they recommend (they quite often have a better knowledge of product than the Dr's do)
I was given a prescription for Anal Suppositories that have a numbing solution in them - "Ratio-Proctosone". I was surprised it helped somewhat.
Now if I could find a "numbing" cream for my poor female parts, I'd be in 7th Heaven!!
Keep asking the questions - you never know which answer will be what you're looking for!
Good Luck

I forgot to say that my radiation oncologist suggested adding Mylanta or Milk of Magnesia to the sitz bath. Heaven! It felt like sitting in silk. Try it...
