I was just ordering my pressure sleeves for lymphedema and thought you all may want to check out this site. The pressure sleeves cost much less here and they have a tutorial to aide you in measuring your arm for the right sleeve. The site is http://www.discountsurgical.com/cats.asp?categoryid=159 You will have to copy and paste it. I have been getting my sleeves here for the past 5 years.

    flying?
I never thought about needing a sleeve for flying, so much information we can find on this site! Just love it. I have not flown since surgery, but almost did, was going to a wedding in Tuscon and we decided to drive instead. Lucky me! Guess I better remember this when I do decide to fly again (remember???me???chemo brain??? haha) oh well...

    YES!!!
You definitely need to wear a compression sleeve on an airplane, always! Since you don't have lymphedema, this is a preventative measure. The pressure changes within the plane's cabin pose a risk. Put your sleeve on a couple of hours before you board; then, leave it on for a couple of hours after you land. And, if you're traveling to a place where the altitude is very different than where you live, leave it on for the remainder of the day of your arrival while your body adjusts.

    Kind regards, Susan

    P.S.: Here's another site for compression sleeves & gauntlets - lymphedivas.com

Sorry it's not a real "link" - you'll have to type it in...

Not a "discount" source, as RE has so kindly provided - they specialize in fashion versions; i.e., colors, prints & patterns. Worth a visit, even if just "screen shopping" (the online version of "window shopping" - which is a form of Retail Therapy!). Nice story behind the company, begun by two young BC survivors, both with lymphedema.

Re, if you don't mind me asking, do you have lymphedema? Or are you just purchasing the sleeve for flying?. I am new to the site and noticed your posting and it caught my attention.

Thanks RE and CG for the sites! I will definitely check out both. Do either of you know how I often I should expect to need a new sleeve? I wash it gently by hand and air dry. The gauntlet already looks as if it is starting to wear.

    Thanks for all the info!

    Hi, Debbie!
I wear mine only occasionally, since it's preventative. So, have been replacing it about every 2 years. However, it really depends on the individual's usage. If yours is already SHOWING wear - might need a new one. Although what's most important is whether or not the elastic fibers within it are still doing their job.

    Kind regards, Susan

    lymphedema
Hi Julie, No I do not mind you asking at all. I have had lymphedema since 1998, I started wearing the sleeves and hand glove in 99 and have worn one ever since. It helps to protect my arm and hand from insect bite, scratches, burns etc which can all become seriously infected due to the lymphedema. I also wear it because it lessesns the pain and swelling I have due to the lymphedema. Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions you have that you think I may be able to help you with.

    When to replace you sleeve
    Hi Debbie,

I have to wear my sleeve pretty much daily for approx. 6-8 hours a day. My oncologist and my physical therapist have both suggested I replace it every 3 to 4 months. If it seems to be getting loose it should be replace right away. I agree the gauntlet just becomes worn out soooo quickly.

Hope this has helped a bit.

Hi Lynn, thank you for asking. I am doing well, still uncomfortable a tad but healing well. I go back to see the surgeon in two weeks. I am pleased with how it has turned out so far, he matched the other side quite well. I do have a rather huge scar, but heh I am not complaining I am happy to have some cleavage back and happy to still be here.

Now, Lynn how are you doing? I hope you are doing well, I have had you in my thoughts.

    Hugs,

    Hi J; I don't have
Hi J; I don't have lymphedema and I questioned my oncologist about the sleeve before I even started chemo and he said I would not need it since there were many advancements today in the way the lymph nodes are removed and the risk of getting lymphedema has been greatly reduced. I travel quite frequently both for business and pleasure and have not had a problem. Ask your oncologist and see what he says. Hugs, Lili

    Dearest RE...
So glad to learn that your recovery is continuing without complications, that you're healing well (which means you're taking good care of yourself, as you should!), and - importantly - that you're satisfied with the results. Though sorry for the bit of discomfort you're still experiencing.

Hugs (gentle ones!) to you, too, RE.

    Kind regards, Susan
