Surviving

edited March 2014 in Breast Cancer #1
This past weekend I was at a minor league baseball game where it just happened to be breast cancer awareness. The players had on pink jerseys and people were handing out BC awareness info, mammogram, SBE etc...One woman seemed a bit lecturing to me and was telling me how "you'd better be careful, listen to...". I finally said, "been there, done that" and she continued on until I finally said "and survivng that". Suddenly her eyes widened and she became silent. I've never been comfortable with the word "Survivor". Next month will be my year marker (I'm not comfortable with Anniversary either). I realized that I do like "Surviving" as it makes me feel that I'm active in this fight, expecially now that my treatments are over. Well to all us survivors or those surviving, as one of my favorite BC shirts say, "Save Second Base"!

Dawn, good for you for stepping up to the plate (sorry, couldn't resist). You are a Survivor and a wonderful representative for us all.

doesn't it seem to you that
doesn't it seem to you that everywhere you go or on television there is something about CANCER. i am sure that there are no more ads or programs, etc. on than before but because i had never had cancer i paid no attention to them. people say the strangest things to us survivors, don't they. i hope you continue to do well. love, peggy

    the best team!
You guys are the best team and provide the best coaches!! Like when I was pregnant or got a new car it does seem that when you look around it's all we see...pink ribbons, etc. I'm kind of afraid that with bathing suit season around the corner will I be looking at women's breasts wondering real, fake, mastectomy, implants, reconstructed....?

May, in general, is a paricularly intense PINK RIBBON month
Yep, May and October. October is actually National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. However, since there are so many BC-related events - the various organizations couldn't fit them all into one month. So, May became the "secondary" month for BC awareness because of Mother's Day.

So, we are surrounded with pink ribbons this month! I, for one, kinda like it! :-)

    Kind regards, Susan

Ok you can all laugh but it took me two or three times reading "save second base" to realize what it meant.

    Good come back Dawn, some
Good come back Dawn, some people need to be put in their place. I like the word surviving. It feels like that's exactly what I'm doing. Thanks
