If it's not one thing
The good news: After 5 months of unemployment (and I'm a nurse) during this journey, I have a job! I will be working and living on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico. They provide reasonable housing, pay to move me and my family and pay me well! The area is pretty at about 6300 feet with pinon pine and very rural. But we like being out in the middle of nowhere.
In the middle of this, I got a call on the lab work I had done on the way out of town--we just drove 1000 miles in 2 days to look over the new job--and it appears that my thyroid has quit working so well. Maybe it *wasn't* just the radiation making me tired. *sigh* But there are drugs for that.

Congratulations on the new
Congratulations on the new job. The Navajo Nation is a beautiful place. We lived in Ruidoso NM for about 8 years, and loved it. As far as the thyroid, there are meds to help with that. Hope all goes well for you....good luck in your new job. Hugs.

Awwwwww Maureen
You are doing so great! You are about at the same stage as I am, ready to contemplate full time, heavy work. Good for you!
This Thyroid thing?.....Is it manageable? Curable? Treatable?.. I do hope so, you have been through enough of this Codswallop, we don't need any more. Hugs to you and them Cats...... Jxxxxxxxxx0 -

You are right there are drugs for that and at least now you know why you were tired. I hope your energy will return with the thyroid meds. I know it is frustrating to have another problem though. Do you think the radiation caused your thyroid to quit working?
On the other hand CONGRATULATIONS!! on your new job I am also from a rural area in MT. which is very pretty. I love it. It is so serene. and by the sounds of it you will also love it. My best wishes for your new job and move That is very exciting!
Hugs

What an awesome
What an awesome opportunity!! I think you're going to love it. It will be sooooo different from regular nursing. I worked in a hospital on a reserve located on an island of the mid coast of B.C. Canada. It was a fabulous cultural experience. I fell in love with 2 elders and every Fri night would walk down the road and deliver their meds, drink coffee and listen to stories. I was gifted a paddle from one of the elders and a painting from the hospital staff when I left. Bella Bella will always be in my heart and so you too will meet some special people and as a nurse in a small community you will have a huge opportunity to make a positive impact on many lives. I'm so excited for you.
Damn that thyroid, well at least you know what's causing your fatigue. I wonder if you've had trouble losing weight as well. Just thinking about the connection between the thyroid and metabolism. As the sister's have said, there are meds for that and hopefully they'll work. Did they say what caused your thyroid to stop working??
Best of luck to you

Actually I haven't talked to the doc yet. I am diabetic and this was the routine every 3 month lab work--my A1C is bad but considering the last 3 months, I'm not too worried about it. If it is this high in another 3 months, we'll have to change meds. I'm very overweight and haven't noticed any issues-a slight creep but my diet has been not particularly good lately.
I'll start the replacement thyroid medication tomorrow and see my GP on Tuesday and we shall see what he thinks. The office person that called me (may or may not have been a nurse) was funny. I couldn't get through the phone and I know that getting through to that clinic is a nightmare and I was at a computer filling out forms for the new job (federal government=many, many forms) so I opened a new tab and accessed by lab results on line. I told her what I wrote above and she said--right, you're on top of it. Sheeesh!

New Mexico is Beautiful!!!
My dad is from a small town in New Mexico, most have never heard of it, Tierra Amarilla. We went there all our lives for vacation to visit our relatives, and got to see a lot of the Indian heritage in the area. You will love it there. Hopefully the thyroid thing is just a "bump in the road" for you. Take Care!

Hi Maureen,
Congratulations
Hi Maureen,
Congratulations on the job. Many years ago, as a child, I lived in Albuquerque, NM. and loved it. I am in awe of you going and doing what you do. I hope they get the thyroid under control quickly and it gives you no more trouble. The world needs more angels on earth like you.
Love and gentle hugs,

Congrats!
Hi Maureen, congratulations on the new job. Hope you and family love it there. Wow, there are many that have lived in New Mexico. My husband and I just finished building a log cabin in Cloudcroft, NM. Actually, my husband did most of the work, and I bossed him around a lot :-)
It is so beautiful there, as we are in the Lincoln National Forest. I can't wait to visit again. We have enough done now, that we can start enjoying the getaway.
Hope you get the thyroid issue under control.
Best wishes to you,

WTG Maureen!
I am so happy for you that you got that terrific job in a great place! You will love it! I like being in the middle of nowhere too. We live in the country and just love it! I could never live in a town. lol
Sorry about the call about your thyroid. But, lots of people have thyroid problems and usually it is just taking a pill everyday to take care of it. So, I am sure you will be fine. Just have to remember to take an extra pill for it probably. Well, CONGRATS AGAIN!

Great news on your new job. I lived in New Mexico (Silver City) for a few years while my ex-husband ("old what's-his-name") when to college. I loved it out west and have always missed the beautiful blue sky.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Life is not a destination ... but it is the quality of your journey" ... and it sounds like you have a great journey ahead of you.
Best of luck on your new adventure!
hugs.

Yes, Good News!
The job opportunity sounds fabulous, in all ways! So, good news, good for you! I hope it works out really well for you, and your family. A great big step along the journey towards a "new normal" life! And, I always say that nurses are truly angels on earth. :-)
At the same time, sorry for the "bubble burst" regarding your thyroid issue. And, I'll be sincerely hoping that a simple pill each day will solve that problem.
Please do keep us posted, on all fronts.
Warmest best wishes, for both the new job and an easy solution for the thyroid problem.
Kind regards, Susan0
