Tongue bothers me quite a bit
Today is the end of my first week of chemo/rad. I go in for a cocktail refill this afternoon after some proton beam cooking. I'll be hooked up for at least 3 hours and will be on the laptop catching up on work.
Week in review:
Day 2: Friday 5/8/09 presented some nausea at 9:30am which was quickly combated with nausea med at work. 6 hours later took nausea med again, but still had a 10 minute episode around 5ish with heavy heartburn, went away as quickly as it came.
Day 3: Tongue started presenting pain. Blister or deep sensitivity on bottom muscular part of tongue makes swallowing anything a chore. Mouthwash and careful brushing keeps mouth feeling as good as can be expected.
Day 4 & 5: Feeling tired, tongue still an issue. White coating present to date.
Day 6: Diarhea starts in afternoon. Felt "something" within rectum after radiation. My view is that it must be a sign that it is working.
Day 7: Feel much better today. First day back in the office since day 2. Still no sensitivity to cold drinks nor exposure of hands to fridge. Tongue still white and sensitive (my major complaint).
Thanks for asking. Hope you are well too.0 -

Fernando,
Thanks for the update, I was wondering how you were doing. It's great that you don't have sensitivity to cold drinks. it sounds like you are doing as well as to be expected, and it's great you got to go back to the office. As for the mouth issues, I never really had any problems, but I know that lots of fluids can help, and dehydration can cause the white coating on your tongue, I have had that. I hope things continue to go well for you...keep me updated!
I'm doing well, my last day of Xeloda-the pills I take at home- is tomorrow, then I have my CT scan in a couple weeks to see if all looks ok.
Talk to you soon.
