Can not use the stencil to measure it right now my nurse is tracing
it on transparent paper and cutting it out then putting it on the barrier
to cut it.

Had a weird one
I had a strange one, it was high and large, it was done on emergency basis so my intestines would not burst, the tumor had to wait till later to get taken out. If yours is fairly new, it will shrink in time and be a lot easier to deal with. I just cut a hole that was big enough, did not bother to measure that close, used the convetex durahesive or stoma hesive brand that stuck really good, and used the skin prep so my skin that was not covered would not get irritated. Mine shrunk up real good, and could use the opaque small bags, until I got a prolapse (probably from doing too much work too soon) and had to go back to the big bags and cutting a large hole. Be patient, yours will shrink up a lot.

Sounds okay to me
Mine was also done during emergency surgery and the durn thing almost changed daily. I learned over time that some of those changes were signs of "things to come". The first most humbling moment I had was just after taking a shower and getting ready to dry my hair (before attaching the wafer and bag....bad me) my stoma decided to do what it does best and spill "stuff". That was the first time I realized I had to pay attention to what it looked like because it really does change in shape, size, and color for very good reasons.
I hope you are getting support from an ostomy nurse and not relying on this site. A month from now you'll be telling us what to do!!!

I have a stoma that is shrinking, it looked big at first, but the doctors told me it would take a few months to get to a normal size, I do measure with the stencil, and in the circle, I cut it out that shape over the wafer, then use the paste, away from the stoma abit, so it would stick better, but when I cut the shape of the stoma, I made it too the shape of the stome, so the cut would also be oval, I think I only saw an ostomy nurse once for it, in the hospital, and my home health nurses had helped me do it also, since they knew how to change it as well, if you have home health, maybe you can call the office and request a nurse who can show you how to do this the right way, they are RN's and in the hospital, they've had to change them as well, thank god for mine, or I would have been lost.

Mine was sort of bloated figure 8 that eventually became an oval. I just smeared on plenty of sealer around my stoma the put on the bag. I never had any problems.0 -
stoma
Some stoma's are irregular. They do get smaller with time. A stoma nurse will be the best person to show you how to get the appliance to fit well. I used the two piece convatec appliance, they worked well for me. There are alot of different ones out there.0
