puffy eyelids

My upper eyelids started to retain water and get very puffy after my third AC treatment and my eyes water like heck. I have finished my last AC treatment on 4/21 and will be starting Taxol w/Herceptin 5/7.

My question is if others have had this and how long it lasts.
I have been to the onc and she said for me to see my eye doc and I did and he thinks it might be from the chemo and not seasonal allergies.

Thanks for any input.
Margo

What I should have done and I'll learn sometime to go to the website chemocare.com first.
One of the side effects 10-29% is watery eyes of Adrimyacin (spelling).

So now I have my answer. Maybe my eyes can't get rid of the water at night so that is why my eye lids are fat in the morning.

    Hi Margo.....
    Hi Margo,
I didn't have puffy eyes, but did have watering eyes and also at times, very dry eyes while doing chemo.
My vision also got progressively worse, to the point where I couldn't even focus to drive and had to get the prescription changed for my glasses.
For the dry eyes, they had me using lots and lots of artificial tears. For the watering eyes, there wasn't a whole lot to be done. Just grin & bear it really.

I also lost my voice completely for 7 weeks during chemo. Had to see a specialist and he used a scope to look at my vocal cords. The drugs had killed some of the cells on the vocal cords and he said that they were essentially sloughing off and making the cords uneven and bumpy...thus the loss of my voice. He told me that when they had quit doing that, the cords would be smooth again and I would be able to talk. And eventually, that's what happened. My voice came back.

My onc told my husband (with a grin) that it was ok to go ahead & thank him for the fact that I couldn't talk at all. Then they both laughed. Well, hahaha...not so funny to me. Sheesh!!

    dry eyes
I never had the puffy eyes, but my eyesight did change considerably after I was finished with chemo. Before I started, I only needed contacts for one eye that was slightly nearsighted. I stopped wearing contacts while on the ACT, and now I need the progressive lenses because I can't see anything clearly anymore without help. Went to glasses because the contacts are VERY pricey. Had dry eyes after all was said and done too. So, it does have a snowball effect doesn't it? Keep on fighting!

    CR - Geez!
Not so funny to me, either! Sheesh - to put it mildly!

I'll echo Margo here... Wouldn't be funny - AT ALL - if it was happening to THEM, now would it?!?

No wonder we proudly call ourselves Warrior Princess Survivors! It's not just about the surviving the disease itself, is it?

    Kind regards, Susan

P.S.: No offense meant towards your hubby - your ONC "started it"!

Hey Margo, I was puffy all over. Retained a lot of water so had to take a diuretic a few times during treatment. I did drink lots of water and it did help. Hugs, Lili

PS Love the pic, he's cute.

I did have the watery eyes. I took Clartin for awhile til it didn't help anymore. My left cleared up but now it twitches a little. (Not all the time). I am on TAC meds.

    Claratin
I take Claratin every day so now I'm going to try eye drops for allergies since there is a lot of pollen in the air here in Maine now.
