It's not you
I went through it too. Everything tasted like crap to me. Or worse, it became bland. I like to cook and it took the wind out of my sails for a while. Please remember, your taste buds will recover and that will just be a lousy memory when you are through this. I actually haven't even thought of that part of it in the longest time. You know, I bet this is part of why many people feel that pot should be legal for people in our shoes. It does stimulate the appetite and make the nausea go away. I've heard
I have days still though when I don't feel like going in, it will sometimes hit me on the weekend, and I always go for chemo on alternating Mondays. Hang in there and it will be over soon.

My husband goes in for his 3rd treatment tomorrow. His side effects lasted longer this time and he JUST started feeling better yesterday!! The sun is shining and its beautiful outside.. and he even rode his motorcycle to work today. He really really wants to skip a treatment. You are very strong and brave to keep pushing forward, and just know - you are not alone. It is incredibly hard to go in to the treatment center when you know how you will feel coming out...0 -

chemo sucks big time!
A post from my blog when I was on chemo:
"...it's 12:53 Wednesday morning ... I don't want to go to bed ... I don't want to wake up and it be 3 hours before I go for chemo ... I don't want to do chemo again ... I took some Ativan, and it will be ok soon. I only have one more before I get a break ... but I feel pretty good right now ... I don't want to feel bad again ... But, I'll wake up tomorrow, and I will have 3 hours till my chemo, and I will do all the final preparations, as I always do. I will be fine.."

Chemo Sucks!
Hey Jenben...
I'm really relating to what you are saying. When I wasn't experiencing post-chemo nausea my great treat was going out for a Reuben Sandwich! It was the only thing that could break the taste threshold!!
I think we all find our way to our own "chemo comfort foods", ones we can stomach and, perhaps even enjoy.
Chemo was a real grind for me. Fortunately I was able to be off work so could just lay around and sleep for the worst days.
After tomorrow there will be one less treatment to dread. Where are you in the treatment program?
Hang in there...

You're not alone!
Jenben, when I was on Folfox, everything tasted like sewage, even plain water. This got me into nutritional and hydration trouble. Regardless of taste, please, please, please keep up both, especially the hydration. It will help flush your system and keep you optimized as you go along. I completely understand the taste, but you are also opening yourself up to opportunistic infections if you are not optimized. I ended up with thrush in my mouth which naturally made everything taste even worse--vicious cycle. So hold your nose, figuratively speaking, and do what you have to do.
Hugs and prayers,

Fast Food Junkie
Chiming in with the rest.....it was awful.....that's when I became
a fast food junkie.....Taco Bell, Arbys chicken salad or turkey
swiss market fresh sandwiches.....Cincinnati water tastes bad anyway
and I started adding a squirt of lemon or a bit of Kool-Aid to make
it go down...hang in there, it doesn't last forever and I agree everyone
finds their own comfort foods during this time.....it has been a LONG,
LONG time since I've gone back to Taco Bell or Arbys.
Hugs,

Great sign Rob. Maybe you could add "New & Improved"0 -
food taste
Lemonade usually tasted ok so did warm coke. Watermelon always tasted good to me. For some reason I craved McDonalds McChicken sandwiches and fries the whole time I was going thru treatment. I found that if I kept a small piece of spearment gum in my mouth that helped. Coffee was always good and still is. How about chocolate? Someone I know swears by it. On days when I had chemo again and didn't want to go I would have to tell myself it's one less and closer to the end when treatment is done. Wish I were near you I'd go with you and bring you anything you wanted. Sending you hugs.0
