Husband scheduled for surgery
Just wanted to tell you that we went to see the surgical oncologist yest. He said the spot on my husbands liver that lit on the PET/CT is too small too biopsy. He said he is sure that it is a mestastes from the colon cancer. He said chemo may have killed it, and there may be one cell lighting up. He is going to remove it laproscopicaly at the end of the month. He said the spot on the adrenal gland that didn't light on the PET. But showed on the CT, is just something normal that shows up a lot and isn't cancer. So, I really feel alot better after talking with him. He said as for chemo afterwards, he thinks since it is small it will be all removed, but it will be up to our onc to decide. Thank you all for the encouragement, and prayers. I will keep you posted.

good news!
thanks for posting! I am glad to hear he's scheduled for lap and the surgeon says it's going to be very easy and minor. Definitely consider the follow up chemo, as you have read on this board before; it's a very serious topic and needs to be carefully considered by each person and whatever stage they currently are! Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks, I will definetly consider it.. he asked why he wasn't given AVASTIN in the beginning because he said that really helps with it spreading. I told him they told us chemo was only a precaution and he really didn't need to take it.. well, I AM SURE GLAD HE DID. I just pray it can be done laproscopicaly.. he said it should be easily done.. but I always have to worry about something.. lol.. He also said they will do PET/CT every 3 mos for a while to monitor everything, so that is good.. I have my yearly Pet/ct in April. I will continue to keep everyone on this board in my prayers. We are all survivors and fighters.

That's really good news, Gail! Sounds like everything is under control... and that they are going to monitor for some time afterwards.
My only .02 worth is... keep reminding them before the PET/CT scan about the spot on the adrenal gland and that you want them to keep an eye on it. Yes, it may be nothing... on the other hand, I happen to take the adrenal gland personally. It is NOT common at all for colon cancer to spread to the adrenal gland, so most don't take the adrenal gland seriously... or even relate it to colon cancer. But guess what? Yours truly (me) had her right adrenal gland light up on the PET scan... and yes, after a biopsy, it was proven to be positive for cancer. I had the whole right adrenal gland removed surgically (laproscopically, I might add) and it was a very painful surgery for me. But pathology, after the surgery, proved that it was colon cancer that had spread to the adrenal, which shocked all my doctors. They still don't understand how/why it spread there.
I'm not saying hubby has it... just advising to keep an eye on it

sorry to hear
Thanks Cheryl,
sorry to hear that you had that happen. I never heard of that before, so I am glad they are going to keep an eye on it. I wonder how many have had laprascopic liver resection?? And how they did, and what was the recovery time? The doc said he would only be in hospital a day or two, provided no complications or anything. Then about two weeks after that to recover. Sounds better than my colon surgery... whew.. that took forever!

Good luck
Sending a prayer that all goes well. My husband had liver resection over a year ago and rfa back in November of last year for a reoccurrance. Both times he did very well. We go back tuesday for another ct and results. Is your husband having resection or rfa? Keep us posted. God Bless

Thanks everyone for the good wishes, and prayers.. he is going for a laproscopic resection, as far as we know. The surgeon said he will do an ultrasound of the liver while in there, to make sure there are no other tumors. But the PET/CT only showed this small one, that is too little to biopsy. I am glad your hubby is doing well. The dr. said there is always a chance of recurrance since the liver regenerates itself.
