Awareness Month
As victorious soldiers who have "graduated" from the disease by being NED, as well as those still active in the fight, take a minute to remind people the importance of early detection. We all know that age doesn't matter with this disease, as previously thought by insurance companies, heck I was 33 @ diagnosis!
So my heart goes out to all of you still fighting the good fight...STAY STRONG, we're all with you!
Hugs & Happy Tuesday,
Stacy (who is truly grateful for every day, as sappy as that sounds! lol)

I am glad
you reminded me. I will bring this up at our staff meeting next week. I'm pretty much the "kid" of the group at 46 and I know a lot of them still have not had a colonoscopy. Hopefully after seeing what I have been through and am still fighting, they will go get one. Blessings to you, Buzzard for going and speaking. And I read you are having a tough week. You are in my prayers.

Hey Stranger!!!!
Great to hear from you Stacy (or is it Stacey???)
I'm running in a 5K Saturday to support early screenings/detections!!! I've started another thread about that. Thanks for the reminder to us all.
Hope all is well and I can't believe how big the kids are.
Hugs back at cha!

I'm so happy to have found you again!!
Stacy,
Perhaps you remember. You and I talked in 2006, or
maybe it was 2007. My ex has rectal cancer that
had metastacized to the liver and you gave us
the name of your surgeon in NY.
Being the computer-illiterate I am, I was unable
to figure out how to email you and tell you what happened,
and I misplaced your phone no.
To make a long story short, after being told his
situation was inoperable, he finally located a surgeon
at Lahey Clinic---I call him a surgeon but he is a GOD!---
who performed the surgery with absolutely no complications whatsoever
and he was a complete sweetheart to boot. His name is
Roger Jenkins, he's a lever transplant surgeon, and I
urge everyone out there to remember his name.
Stacy, you are a truly wonderful human being, and I feel
blessed that you came into my life when you did. Your
support and kindness were gifts to me, and I hope that
you've continued to be healthy.
This is the first time I've been back on this site
for awhile, and I'm so happy I found you again.
My ex is doing ok right now, he continues to have
all kinds of bowel problems, but he's living on his own again,
is off chemo, and has regained energy.
Lots of love and hugs to you.

March is our month!2bhealed said:???
Knowing that March is "our" month I was expecting something from ACS but I don't see any promo of it. Have I missed it or is there nothing on here promoting our month?
peace, emily
Hi, Emily.
Our local Relay for Life captains' meeting featured facts about colon cancer. I'm happy to say I won an orange for knowing that one reason to be tested early is a family history of colon cancer. Yay, me!
But I have to say that overall, I feel like we're the redheaded stepchild. There's TONS of stuff out there about breast cancer (and bless all my ladies who have dealt with that beast). It would be nice, though, if we got some of the noise, as well.
*hugs*

I have volunteered online to go to the state capitol the end of the month on ACS Lobbying Day to meet my state legislators and talk with them about my cancer story. And of course talk about the need for colonoscopies for all Missourians over the age of 50. Haven't heard anything back yet, so this may not happen. I look forward to the opportunity to make the legislators aware of the need for screening (my cc was caught by my first screening colonoscopy - no symptoms whatsoever.) Without the screening colonoscopy, my cc would surely have been more advanced than Stage 1.

Laura,
I am SO happy to hear from you! I totally remember speaking with you about your ex. I used to be able to scroll through my old emails on this site, but when the format changed, those emails got lost. When I hadn't seen you on here, I wondered what was going on. I am very excited for your ex, and for you, too. It's as hard on the caregivers as much as it is on the patients, sometimes harder, mentally! I am happy to report that I have been cancer free for over 7 yrs now. Life is good!
Please keep in touch!!!!!
Hugs,

I didn't know
I didn't know that March was National Colon Cancer Awareness month - they certainly don't advertise it like they do for Breast Cancer. They probably should, because unless you know exactly what you are looking for, you could have colon cancer and not even know it until the pain is so bad you can't stand it and then you still don't know. Sad, but it's the truth.
