I'm here! Just popped in with my 2nd cup of coffee.
Maybe all the others are at church!
How's Garth doing? I think of you both so often.
I popped in because I just got a tearful phone call from my 8-year-old-granddaughter, who has a bad cold and is being kept away from me because of it. Her mother is working today and her dad is watching them and she was feeling lonely and sorry for herself and missing me and wanted to be curled up with me drinking sugary hot tea and watching the silly reality shows she likes so much on The Learning Channel. My 24-year old daughter-in-law moved out and in with her boyfriend last weekend, and Vic and I spent time this week fixing up her old bedroom for little Emily. I know that Emily is anxious to get over here and sit at Jess's old vanity table and put the clothes and little things she keeps here in the dresser drawers and set up laptop in her new bedroom at Grammy's, and sleep in that room for the first time. Her little brother, who doesn't have the cold, stopped in yesterday and had a fun time moving Emily's things out of the guestroom the two grandkids have always shared, and into the newly-empty room that will be Emily's. She had me crying by the time we hung up, missing her so bad. This isolation is the hardest part for me. I'm SOOOOOO glad that it's March and the end of winter may actually come and the grandkids perhaps won't have colds so much. I need their sweet kisses and hugs and chatter like I need sunshine and air to breathe.0 -

I should be at church also. We brought a rough rock home from the Ash Wed service when Jodana sang a duet... I am focusing on that before we take it back and place it under the cross at the end of lent. I have also been watching a sermon on TV today. How are you doing? We have such cold weather here. Next week is supposed to be into the 30's and 40 so I hope to cross country ski all week long!! I have been working on the relay for life. I am the publicity chair this year. I called our 'boss' this week end and told him we were going to light up one of the bridges in purple for our new relay look this year. He said "OK!?!" We have the most beautiful park with just over a wooded mile circle for the walk and ceremony. I can just see our HOPE sign light up leading to the full circle of luminaries and then the purple bridge in the backround... just the right perch for the thousands of cancer Angels that we know watch over us as we walk through the night!! Have you given anything up for lent? I told myself I was giving up treats, then I remember AFTER I start eating the treat. Chemo Brain?? Wishing you all a happy pain free day. Peggy0 -

You are such a 'nester'!! Grandma's do it best. .... soon Emily will be at your house more often and making all of the messes that we love so much. Our Victor was here last night. He is 1. I agree we need the sunshine of their sweetness and their smiles just like spring to heal. Garth is hanging in there. It might be easier to say he is not getting worse than it is to say he is better. He has a scan Monday morning. Maybe we will get answers then. Thanks for asking!0 -

Hi Linda,
I felt so bad for you when i read how your grandaughter had a cold and couldn't come to see you. So both of the grandchildren will live with you? That is great. My mom, who has the serous carcinoma has my 4 yr old grandaughter and my daughter living with her for the past 4 yrs. It is hard at times as my is 85 and doesn't get a whole lot of help from my daughter. I live next door so i do whatever i can. Right now my 4 yr old grandaughter Klaire is playing with playdough and i'll join her now. My heart goes out to you and I do hope you feel better soon and the sunshine will bring smiles to you once again. You are such a good and genuine human being that i wish the best for you, with good health, happiness and smiles to come soon!!!! Thanks for all you do for everyone and best to all of the sisters!!I enjoy reading the "posts" here. And you know what? Everyone has "down" times or "sad" times, and i think that's quite reasonable. God Bless you. Where do you live? It is so warm here today In Lakewood California. Like 80 degrees. I am boiling. I don't tolerate heat very well. Did do some planting yesterday though.
Take care, and post when you can.
Sincerely,
Linda Cookie0 -

My grandkids have bedrooms here, but only for their weekly 'sleep-overs', not for all the time. (Although I always invite them to come and be MY kids, and we sometimes pretend that they are never going home to their parents, they always do.) It is good to have your family nearby.
I live in wintry cold central Pennsylvania, where spring is still at least a month away. Our 'last frost date' is May 31st. I envy you your hot weather!!0 -

I bet you are a GREAT grandma. I bet you make it so fun for your grandchildren, and they feel so special because of you. I do not have any grandchildren. Always looked forward to having them, but it did not happen. My daughters have very special memories of the times they spent with their Grandparents. Hope you get to spend the next weekend with both grandkids. Hope you are feeling better today.0 -

One of my grantwriting clients who has been with me since 2005 decided to accept bids from other grantwriting firms due to this poor economy, and so someone from my little company needed to go and make a presentation last night to their Board of Directors to make a case for retaining us another year. Originally I asked my son to do that for me, because I wasn't sure I wanted to be in a room with coughing people and I am so tired by evening. But I felt pretty good yesterday and decided to go with him and make the presentation myself. And I asked him to pick me up an hour early and I'd take him out for a nice dinner. I don't think we've ever done that before, just us two, as he has a wife and 2 children that I love dearly that always come with us, and my husband is usually a part of the rare 'fancy dinner' outings we have. It was good to have a quiet and beautiful meal (I had the Orange Roughy; he had the filet mignon!) and tell him how proud I am of him and that I love him and just talk about life. I am sharing this because I want to encourage each of you to make special individual time for each important person in your life and say the things that are assumed but should be said. I plan to make it a point to find special memorable "just us" times with each of the people I love. Just in case.
My granddaughter Emily is just about over her cold and got to come after school and give me a hug and arrange some of her toys from home in her 'new sleep-over room at Grammy Linda's'. I plan to have both grandkids sleep over Friday night. My other son, Eric, will be coming in for the weekend also. And it's my wedding anniversary Saturday, so I have some things coming up to look forward to. Life is good, cancer be dam*ed.0 -

Linda, you inspired me when I read about dinner with your son.
After getting my blood test this morning instead of heading home I went to my son's work. He and I went and had lunch together, it was wonderful.Tony is married and he and his wife, Jerrie have given us 4 beautiful grandchildren. We live 7 miles from each other and see each other all the time, but never just the two of us.0 -

I'm sticking by this "just us 2" thing, too. My granddaughter Emily is upstairs sleeping here tonight, just her and not her little brother. He was a little whiny and jealous to leave with his mother, but I wanted tonight to be just Emily and I. We chit-chatted all evening and I made the fresh-cut homemade french fries that are her favorite, and we made super-thick chocolate milkshakes and giggled and cuddled and she fell asleep curled up tight against me. Both grandkids are sleeping over Friday night, but I needed this time with just Emily. (My husband left us alone.) & her little brother will get his 'solo' time with me one night next week for his own special sleep-over. I think everyone who loves a person with cancer is going through a stressful time, and to acknowledge that with a simple out-of-the-norm thing like a "just us two" lunch or dinner or sleep-over is meaningful at a time like this. I'm glad you had fun, Teresa. HUGS!0 -

It sounds like you and Emily had a great evening. I am sure it was needed by both of you. I am sure Emily enjoyed it just as much as you did. Your grandson will enjoy his special time, too. The idea of having "just us 2" time with special people is such a great idea. I am glad you are having the energy to do these things. I hope your presentation went well that you were able to keep the account. Take care of yourself. Hugs.0 -

So far I've had 3 chemos, will have my 1st of 28 radiations starting tomorrow, will then have 3 days in the hospital for internal radiation, will have last 3 chemos after I finish radiation.
Ro, hope you have been able to get your blood pressure under control. Seems like our treatment agenda's are pretty much the same,(sandwiching).
Bonnie, hope your transfusion gets you through your last chemo and that your feeling well.
Peggy, hope Garth is feeling better. Keep you in my prayers.........0 -

Just a quick update; Garth is now in a wheel chair. Not only has this pancreatitus hit him ... now he has the possibility of migrating arthritus or gout. He had the fluid drawn from his ankles for testing then cortisone injections. We may know what is wrong when the lab results are in. More terrible pain. (I know my spelling is bad, sorry... very tired yet!!) I am trying to keep up with this board. Glad to know we are getting new people, but not because of the reason they come here with this horrible stuff to fight. I keep you all in my prayers. Peggy0 -

Hope all goes well with your radiation treatments. I am surprised you do not have a several week rest period before you start your radiation. When did you have your 3rd chemo treatment? I am also surprised you will be in the hospital for your internal radiation. I thought those were done as outpatient also, but I have not talked to the radiation onocologist yet.
I finally got a different BP pill that helped both the blood pressure and the high heart rate. Hope it continues to work, so hopefully I can have an uneventful 3rd chemo treatment which I will have on 3/13.
Hope you continue to do well.0 -

I feel so sorry for both you and Garth. Being in a wheelchair would not be fun. And the pain surely must be terrible. It is so hard to watch your loved ones suffer. The pancreatitis is bad enough. You both remain in my prayers and I hope you get some answers soon to some of your questions. Take care of yourself.0 -

Had my 1st radiation today.Back again tomorrow morning for the 2nd radiation.
My 3rd chemo was 2/17.I was surprised when the radiation oncologist said I would be in the hospital for 3 days for internal radiation. Not very happy about it because I have to make arrangements for my daughter. Her father kept her a couple of days when I had my fist chemo, but haven't seen nor heard from him since.(Not A Big Surprise!)Well, I'am not going to worry about that right now, just want to get through the 28 pelvic radiations first. One thing at a time...
The one good thing about the 3 day internal radiation ,it will be done with and 2 weeks later I can get back to finishing my last 3 rounds of chemo.
There are so many different ways to do our cancer treatments just hope they all work out the same for all of us. CANCER FREE!!!!!
Peggy, when my husband was first diagnosed with kidney failure he went through a couple of bouts with gout and also had to use a wheel chair for awhile. It was crazy for awhile because my daughter is also in a wheel chair.I got alot of exercise that year.Anyway he said he felt like he was walking on glass, they gave him prednazone(sp) for it.Did the same test on my husband that they did on Garth. Hope they figure it out soon so he will be feeling better.0 -

Hope your husband is doing good now Teresa. It amazes me how much you have on your plate too. You are a very strong person to continue to be a caregiver and a survivor. I wish I were closer to help you. I don't know if this will help you or not about the internal radiation/hospital stay. I was told at first I would have to stay in the hospital for mine also. Then I was told there are 2 kinds of internal treatments. I had a friend stay in the hospital for her internal treatments, but it was years ago. I was later told that the type of internal they put you in the hospital is seldom used anymore. She said you have to be flat on your back for many many hours. Do you have the option of having the same brachy most of us have had or are having? It may be something to look into. I wish I had paid more attention to the options at the time. I am off to the hospital today... again!! or I would spend some time looking on the internet for the differences of internal brachy. Hello to all on this board and hope you are healing more each day. I am looking forward to catching a glimpse of the Easter Bunny and Spring soon. You are always in my heart and prayers. Hope many of the sprouts we see growing for spring are new hairs!! Peggy0
