Muscle Tears/ Hernia

Okay ladies, I have not come across this here yet, and believe me I have looked! Have any of you developed any type of hernia after having abdominal staging surgery or your hysterectomy? I was doing fine until I got the flu two weeks ago. Now I have a burning kind of ache near the incision by my belly button. It has gotten better, but does not go away. Yes, I would like to get this checked out, but I no longer have insurance and am waiting on my medical card. I keep my binder on, day and night, am careful when getting up from sitting. But being a single person living alone with no family to help, I think I may have pulled something out of place. I have been careful about lifting, but I do need groceries. And I do have stairs to climb to my home. And I do have to drive. I don't see any kind of lumps or bumps, but it is tender to the touch. I don't look forward to another surgery, but if I have to I will do it. Has this happened to anyone else here? Thanks ladies! Cindy

    I had this, and a hernia was noted on my last CT-scan
    I had that same pain and tenderness right by my belly button about 3 or 4 months after my hysterectomy and staging. The tenderness and pain there went away as quickly and mysteriously as it appeared. It went away and I almost forgot about it, except that I happened to see on my last 3-month CT-scan a 'note' that I had a small hernia. The oncologist never even mentioned it, and neither did I since I was snooping at his computer screen and saw it while he had my CT-scan results on his screen. My oncologist didn't seem at all concerned about that note, completely ignored it since I am deep into my chemo rounds and have bigger challenges right now. I know that hernias often heal themselves and that doctors are as apt to want to wait and see, as the hernia is less dangerous to have than the surgery you'd need to correct it. If the tenderness doesn't go away in a few days, you may not want to ignore it. But I'll bet it will just disappear. Hope so!

    Hi Cindy, this is pretty common for ovarian cancer. I had an upper hernia and wore a support as they are painful. But unless they get to where your intestines are popping out(mine did) they don't usually do surgery. I learned afterwards, because of the chemo, our incision heals poorly and makes us more acceptable to incisional hernias.

    So to those still healing from surgery and on chemo, don't strain or over lift.

    Thank you both for answering me. I guess I have a lot of company with these things. Boy, if it isn't one thing, it's another. I guess my "buddy" and I will be keeping company for awhile until he gets too hard to handle. Had it not been for that darn flu bug, i think I might have been okay.     I had problems with hernia's for several years, finally last Sept. I had a bowel obstrution and they went which was another surgery to get over and put a blanket of mesh. I have been so much better since then but I also took a break from chemo after surgery. I started hexalen this past month.
    Good luck and be careful. I didnt know what a hernia was really until I got one.

    I have one too
    I saw on my ct scan that I had one in the upper right hand corner it was a few scans ago and lately I noticed that area doesn't hurt much anymore I didn't know they could heal on there own I think mine has. Laura
