My mom has very runny eyes. The nurses say it's normal due to the chemo. But she has like water falls going on here. Anyone have the same problem or any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time. LOVE and HOPE to all of you. This whole thing has made me a better and stronger person and I am sure you all can say the same and atleast we have that!!!

    fountain eyes
Mine were so watery they had to put plugs in my tear ducts because I couldn't see to well and I kept wiping my eyes and was prone to infections. It was as if I was crying all of the time when I really wasn't.

Here's a ((((HUG))) for you and one for your mom (((HUG)))

    My best to you both!

    Eye problems are common
Some have watery others have dry. I also got pink eye as a side effect from Taxotere. It is normal, but as RE said there are solutions if it gets to be too annoying for your mom. Good luck.

My eyes watered quite a bit
My eyes watered quite a bit during and a few months after chemo. Not enough to seek medical attention though. They eventually dried up and now with the hormone therapy they are quite dry. It is a pain but fortunately it usually isn't permanent. Best of luck to you and sorry you need to be part of this.

    Wet Eyes
A clinical trial research nurse told me that watery eyes are caused by dehydration, so if my eyes got watery, I should drink more water. They did get watery, and I followed her advice. So far, it has helped every time.

    Mine were dry AND watery.

Yes, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. If it doesn't bring you enough relief, get some drops that are made for chronic dry eye.

    Glad to Help
You are very welcome. I feel as if you all are saving my life (and sanity) as much as my doctors and medicine. I thank God for each of you and for this board and am happy to offer any help I can.

Hope hydration helps and your eyes are better. By the way, I love your photo. It always makes me smile.

My eyes didn't water but my nose ran constantly the whole 6 months. Someone said that it was because your nose hairs have fallen out......weird.

    So that explains it
Thanks for this information-- I was a bit worried that I was getting a cold. Now I know to expect a runny nose for awhile. Better than a cold, though!

    I had watery eyes even
I had watery eyes even though I drank gallons of water every day. Now, that I'm on tamoxifen, they are extremely dry. To the point that I have to put in saline drops every 2 hours. This is all side effects of chemo. It will get better. Hugs, Lili

    Lil, the tamoxifen dried my
Lil, the tamoxifen dried my eyes out so bad I eventually had to go off it. Drops did nothing.
The only relief I had was when I went off the drug. Had tremendous scalp itch as well. Good riddance to the drug. Hope you do better than I did.

Jan, how long were you on
Jan, how long were you on the tamoxifen? I still have 4 yrs to go. My opthamologist wants to plug my tear ducts, but my brother (he's a doctor) advised me against that and to try that restasis eye drops. I have to go back to the oncologist in March, so I'll ask him also. My scalp also itches, and my body too. Love, Lili

I was on Tamoxifen for about
I was on Tamoxifen for about 1 1/2 yrs off and on. My eyes started bothering me about 6 mos into it. Of course no one had heard of this and I went to an ophthalmologist who supposedly specialized in medication related eye problems but I think she was more for cataracts caused by meds. Anyway, she never did write a report and I just went off it. Apparently it or any anti-estrogen can cause sjogren like symptoms from what I've looked up. An incurable autoimmune syndrome. I've heard of people using the tear plugs but a doc friend of mine said don't do it. She never said why though.

Now I'm 7 weeks into an AI and they are starting to bug me again. I will have to look into restasis as I don't have many options left if this doesn't work. The darn stuff just dries us out. I really wish my body didn't rebel against these meds so much. I tell it to "just take the damn stuff and shut up!!" I do hope you fair better. I will PM you with something I found.

I was on Tamoxifen for 5 years and can't remember my eyes being a problem but then I went onto Femara and then Aromasin total of 1 1/2 years for those. That's when I developed all sorts of problems. I won't go into all of them but my eyes have been a real problem. I saw the eye MD and he said I had dry spots on my corneas. He tried the tear duct plugs but they didn't do anything. Unfortunately, I have a blocked tearduct in my Rt eye so I constantly have a puddle in my eye or tears running down my face.I was then put on Restasis 2 times a day in both eyes and now 1 x a day in only my Lt eye. The dry spots are gone . They feel better except for my tearing Rt eye. I may have to have my tearduct opened but I'm in no rush for that.I think it's worth trying. Good luck . HUGS!!! Cathy

Thank you Cathy and Jan. I
Thank you Cathy and Jan. I really think that when I go back to the eye dr this week I will be a little more assertive and say no to the plugs and to just give me the restasis. Thanks for all your input and I'll keep you posted. Hugs, Lili
