The pain does get worseunknown said:This comment has been removed by the Moderator
The pain does get worse during the course of the day, especially if I do a lot of walking. I have been wearing things that aren't tight fitting. I don't want any pressure there. I'm just really healthy, never sick, and I usually get over things very quickly. I lay down when I get home in the evening. How long before you were able to exercise?0 -
Cindylou who?
Yea, I bet that's really old, but I couldn't resist. One of my favorite cartoons and movies. Anyhow, I think 6 weeks is really early in the recovery and I agree you need to check with your doc to be sure everything is ok. At 6 weeks you are probably close to a followup with your surgeon, right? Good luck with your continued recovery and welcome to the semi-colons.

I don't have another appointment with my surgeon for 3 months. Is that normal?0 -

But I am thinking 2 or 3 months was usual. If you are having concerns I would definitely call the surgeon's nurse and ask about an appointment sooner. If it's just muscle soreness, try an abdominal wrap like what they have for pregnant women. It snugs in all the abdominal stuff so it doesn't move as much as you heal. I found that made it SO much easier for me to walk and move in general.

Thanks, I'll try that. Imsccolon said:I actually can't remember the time frame

Did they say six monthsunknown said:This comment has been removed by the Moderator
Did they say six months because of your leukopenia, or does it just take at least that long for everyone? I just have a problem slowing down, I want to go hiking, but walking down the street wears me out!0 -

92 pounds and then you lostunknown said:This comment has been removed by the Moderator
92 pounds and then you lost another 8! Oh my goodness! Thanks for the advice. I'll try to be a little more patient with my recovery, and let my body heal. I was excited about having time off from work, and planned to get lots of stuff done at home after surgery. DIDN'T HAPPEN!0 -

and I got off a week early for good behavior. I wasn't suppose to lift anything over 10# or do any strenuous exercise besides walking.0 -

My behavior hasn't been too good. I wasn't thinking, and I picked up my granddaughter at Christmas, and she weighs probably 35-40lbs. Guess I need to settle down a bit.0 -
I did the same thing. Weunknown said:This comment has been removed by the Moderator
I did the same thing. We had our family Christmas party a week and 1/2 after my surgery, and I never miss it. About half way through, and I hit the wall, went home, and didn't get out of bed the next day.0 -

Be careful for several monthsunknown said:This comment has been removed by the Moderator
After my colon resection, walking helped me heal. After about 8 weeks though, I began more vigorous exercise and over the next 2-3 months did some physically demanding projects around the house. In short, I ended up giving myself a fairly significant hernia. I had liver resection a couple months ago and am trying to be smarter this time but I find that just normal activities - like leaning over to put the laptop down - can be painful. So - be careful about doing too much and I find that I sometimes overdo even without taking on anything out of the ordinary.0 -
No, I didn't eperience increased pain
Have you called your surgeon - and primary care. Tootsie1 - on this site experience severe abdominal pain after her resection - she was stage one. It was due to a blockage.
Please get in touch with you doctors. If the pain is severe - it might require some attention.

Hi
Hi, CindyLou. As stated by Pamness, I am also a Stage 1 survivor. I have had pain since the surgery just over a year ago. At times it has been severe enough to have me admitted to the hospital for a few days. I'm still working on this with my various doctors and will see a university- based gastroenterologist in a couple of weeks. However, I am able to walk and do what I want in between bouts of pain. In my very humble opinion, it sounds to me like you've done too much. You're still not that far out from your surgery. Call your doctor to be sure you haven't done so much that you've caused a problem. I do remember for months after my surgery I would just be so tired and would easily get that "done in" feeling. Give yourself time to recover. Welcome to our board, and I'm glad that you're also a Stage 1.
*hugs*

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice! It's good to talk with others that are going through, or have gone through the same thing. I'm off this weekend, and I'm going to just rest and see if I'm better by Mon. I think I have overdone it just a bit. The dr. did release me to go back to work, but she also told me she would give me a couple more weeks if I wanted, but my mortage company didn't think waiting two more weeks was such a good idea!
