NED without surgery?

Does anybody know of stage 3 or 4 survivors that are NED without surgery?
The reason I ask is that I am currently in my #10 chemo (folfox+avastin). My doc will give me one month break after I finish 12 rounds of chemo. Then the surgeon will remove the tumor in my rectum. I will start the maintenance chemo one month after the surgery to take care of the liver metes.
The plan looks good, but I am trying to see if there is any option other than surgery.

    Stage 3....rectal
    I had surgery, but thought I'd send my big vibes...only 2 more to go!!!!!

    I lost my entire rectum and sigmoid colon, but have a rectum fashioned out of descending colon...called a J-Pouch procedure...I have no trouble now.
