Abraxane

I was first diagnosed Dec. 2002. Mastectomy, and reconstruction and put on tomoxifen. I stayed clean for 4 years. April of 2007 it came back as a plueral effusion in rite lung and they drained 3 litres of fluid from me. I had 7 rounds of Taxotere and was put on femara. I was in remission for 1 year and 5 days and started noticing breathing problems again. I tried making excuses for the shortness of breath but reality is that it's back again. Next week they will start me on abraxane, once a week for 3 weeks and one week off. Could be 9, 12 or 18 rounds depending on how well it does. I did really well on taxotere as far as side effects go and need to know if anyone has taken abraxane and how you did on it. I realize everyone is different, but I'm just curious. Sometimes I just feel like a dummy on this subject and should know a lot more than I do. When you get down to it, I am really scared...

God is Carrying You
Linda,
I can't answer your question about the chemo. I haven't had it.
But, I can relate to the really scared part. You've been through alot in these past 6 years. Your body is tired. Your mind is tired. And we all live in fear of a hangnail! I am so sorry that your cancer has returned again and that you have to go through this.
The scripture that has absolutely pulled me through is Psalm 68:19b: For each day He carries us in His arms.
I would just picture Jesus carrying me like I was a child. When I didn't want to go to chemo. When I was so tired that I just layed in bed. When I had to go have additional ultrasounds. He was carrying me the whole time.

Abraxene
Hi,
I am a 4.5 year survivor with stage 4, with mets. Which means I have an on-going plan of chemo until I am healed. So I've been through many different types of chemo.
I am so sorry for the reoccurence of cancer. But it was caught and you can get through this.
As far as my time on Abraxene, I did well with the drug. However, the only side effect is the "peeling of my hands and feet."
But before I took abraxene I looked it up on the computer and learned everything that I could so I was pro-active. This is your body and you have every right to ask what ever questions you need to ask to make you feel comfortable. Go to the library or call 1-800-ACS-2345 and ask them to give you information about Abraxene. Also ask the Dr. if he has information about Abraxene. What ever it takes, make sure that you know as much as you can!!!!
Hope this helps. Anything else, please contact me.0 -
Abraxane
Hi Linda, I'm so sorry to hear of your recurrence. I know how disappointed you must be feeling. Try to keep your chin up girl, there are women here who have been stage iv and doing fine. It can happen!
About the Abraxane, when I researched the chemo's I was going to take I was quite put out that Abraxane wasn't the taxane of choice for us women. My impression of all that I've read is that it's the Cadillac of taxanes. I always thought that they didn't use it because it was more expensive. The other taxanes use a solvent to carry it to cells while Abraxane uses a fat molecule so there is no allergic rx while on it. The side effects are less with it as well and it is as good or better than the others. So I'm glad that if you have to do more of the taxanes that you will be having that one.
Best of luck to you Linda. Know we wish you the best.
love
