hi everyone

I'm new to this group. i'm a 48 male that was diagenosde with badder cancer back in april/08. and have gone through the chemo... but looking for info on radation. for badder cancer vers the knife.

    April of 08,,what was the stage and is it muscle invasive,? IF IT IS MUSCLE INVASIVE YOU NEED SURGERY, My surgery was Sept. 14th 2007,I have the outside bag, as oppesed to the neo,at 48 I would think the neo is more attractive choice, but the bag works great, no messing around after surgery with daipers etc. because of incontinence until the neo gets working.. always get a second opinion,and pick a large place like the Cleveland Clinic,Md Anderson, Sloan Kettering, they are excellent in this surgery...I had no chemo no radiation and was stage 3 t-2,,,,,,,I am cancer free at one year,I hope you will be too!!     This is all new to me, They took the tumor via scope a week ago yesterday.Check up was last Wed.When my doctor told me the bladder and prostate had to come out, and he advised the external bag,after seeing him I had a CT scan, and he called yesterday and said Tht the surgery was required and scheduled it for July 24. I don't know what stage or type, I just remember him saying it was very invasive and or aggresseive and we needed to attack it aggressively.
    I am a 56 year old married man with 10 & 13 year old daughters, very scared-butglad to know there are survivors out there.

    Stage IV Bladder Cancer

    I know how you feel, we are very scared as well. Our situation is similar to yours. My husband (he is 66)just found out on the 25th of June that he has aggressive Stage IV bladder cancer, which has spread, at a minimum, to the pelvic region and prostrate. He will have a urethral tube inserted Weds to drain the right kidney which is blocked. We meet with the oncologists on Friday. My husband does have a "fight it" attitude - I am so glad about that. Good luck with your surgery. Our prayers are with all of you.

    Mom's Stage IV Bladder Cancer
    Hi,
    My 77-year-old mother was diagnosed with Stage IV bladder cancer in June. Urologist discovered a large tumor that had blocked the openings to the ureters...which then blocked the kidneys. She was in end stage renal failure, but the urologist was able to resect the tumor, unblock the openings, and place stents in the ureters to keep them open. This reversed the renal failure, but she is still not out of the woods. PET scan showed pelvic nodes were involved, so she opted for 5 weeks of cisplatin/5fu chemo (each Monday, 6-hour sessions - week-long portable infuser) AND 6 weeks of radiation (5 days/week). Last Friday, she was lethargic, would not get out of bed, and wouldn't eat or drink. This was 2 weeks after her last chemo treatment, and 2 days before her last radiation treatment. ER found enterococci infection in the tubing of her portacath. After 7 days of IV antibiotic treatment in the hospital, we are now admitting her to a nursing/rehab facility because the infection has caused endocarditis. She will need IV vancomycin every day for 28 days. We are all praying she can get over this hump. She's been through SO much this year...with more to come, more than likely.
