I have talked with two surgeons. After removing my rectum, one will bring the sigmoid colon down and connect it directly to the remaining rectum with staples; the other surgeon will bring the sigmoid colon down and loop it back on itself in a J fashion to form a holding chamber for storage until it is convenient to go the the bathroom.
Does anyone have experience or knowledge of these procedures and which would be preferable.

If you go to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Institute web site you can find all the answers to everything you desire. Im sure you can here also but I am new to this website and not very adept at it yet. Good luck with your decision.......

    J pouch surgery
There is a ton of online advice/opinions on reconnection, J pouch, ect on this ostomy board:

There is also a lot of great support there if you are dealing with an ileostomy or a colostomy.
