Zometa trial

I am invasive intraductal, Stage I, ER positive, did not spread to lymph nodes. I am into being proactive, even though it appears my cancer did not spread. I am considering being in a clinical trial for Zometa, a drug that looks promising in terms of preventing recurrence for early stage survivors. Has anyone heard of this clinical trial, and what do think about participating in it? I have to decide soon, because there is a cut-off date. Also, there is a question of whether or not insurance will cover some of the costs? What has been your experience with insurance paying for clinical trials? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Ohilly

Is Zometa a bisphosfonate? I am in a clinical trial for bisphosfonates---the theory is that it creates an environment in the bones that is hostile to cancer cells. They figure that if the cancer can't met to the bones it wont go elsewhere either maybe. There are 3 arms in my trial and my drug is called clodronate. We take the drug for 3 years but we had to enroll within a couple months of our surgery. The drug and all bloodwork etc. is payed by the drug company. I had heard that some insurance companies will not cover you while you are in a trial because illnesses that pop up may be caused by the trial drug so I called my ins. comp. before enrolling in the trial. They said I'm fine and there would be no change in my coverage. Check it out, its worth looking into. You get to be a part of research and they follow you for many years after the initial trial which gives you a bit more peace of mind:o)0

Hi just wanted to let you know I am on this drug and take it by infusion once a month. I have inflammatory breast cancer stage 4 because it is in my hip bones and pelvis. When you take this drug one of the side effects is aching bones just like you are getting the flu other then that I have not experienced any more side effects. Talk this over with you doctor and see what they think you should do. My insurance company had no problems in covering this drug what ever you do please let me know how it is working for you. Will be thinking of you.
I know you have questions about hair growth this is my second round of cancer and the first time it took awhile for it to come back. But found out yesterday at my office visit my hair will probably never come back because I will be on some sort of chemo for the rest of my life. I am now 62 this is something to look forward in doing. So please do not worry about it coming back because when it does it will be beautiful. Will say prayers for you and hope this has helped you.
hugs and love,
