My husband is 28. He was diagnosed with APL three weeks ago. He is still in the hospital after his first round of chemo and is waiting for his blood numbers to go up. If anyone could let me know of their experiences I would appreciate it. I am just worried things are not going well and need some reassurance that all of his side effects are normal. Also, how long after the first round of chemo did it take for the blood numbers to come up?

    My husband has CML and I know how scary cancer can be. I can't help you regarding the side effects or the chemo, but I am here if you need some one to talk to. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Sherry

    I am in remission from APL
    I wish I had seen this sooner (in July) to share my experience with you. I was diag with APL in Jan 2008. I know exactly how you are feeling. Trust me when I say each day will get better. I didn't think this, but now that I am further into my treatment. It does get better. My 1st round of chemo I was in for 21 days. Went home waiting for levels to go down, back in the hosp till they came up. Same rountine over and over. My last hosp stay was June 20-27th...I returned to work August 4th Full time. There is hope and life will be normal again. It takes time and patients and support from family and friends. I remember days and days in the hosp when I thought something was wrong because my levels were not coming up...every day I would wait for my ANC...and WBC counts. Nothing is wrong...you have to let nature take care of it's self. But it's so hard when you are the person. I know..I've been there. I would like to share more with you....I will be watching everyday to hear to from you. Hang in there. Let God handle this. Pray and have Faith....It all comes together and soon you will be living a "new Normal" life again. I can't wait to hear from you.

    I have not been checking this because the website does not seem to have very much activity. It is nice to hear from someone who know what my husband is going through. As of now, he is in remission and in his last round of Consolidation Therapy. Things definitely got better over time. Its so hard to know what is right and wrong when you dont know what to expect.
    I would love to hear your story and share it with my husband. Maybe we can compare notes! I look forward to hearing from you!

    Just now able to try to reach out to others in my same situation. Do you still look at these boards? Was your mind mush while going thur treatment? I have just finished the 3rd round
    of Chemo - the blue one - so far it has been the worst! Would love to hear from you!

    I would love to be able to talk to you. I watched my husband go thru all of his treatments and is currently on his "maintence" treatment. I was with him everyday all day so I knew alot of what he was going thru.

    Hi,

    I too found the blue one the worst!!! it made me sooo sick!!!. I'm 27 and was diagnosed with APL in april and finish my treatment in sept.
    You def have your bad days but trust me it gets eaiser! my hair is growing back and im back at work full time!
