Port placement , 2nd chemo

Ok guys, weren't you sending enough prayers my way? I got hit with Murphy's law for nurses. They accidently punctured my lung when the port was put in, I was at chemo getting the premed's when I suddenly couldn't breathe and extreme pain when I did. ended up being admitted after ER visit with a pneumothorax (collapsed lung) I ended up getting my chemo next day but spent next 5 days in hospital, my lung collapsed to 65% and I needed a chest tube inserted to equalize air pressure and get lung to re-inflate. I also got a rare side effect called subcutaneous emphysema where the air is trapped under skin and when touched sounds and feels like the snap crackle pop of rice crispies. I couldn't breathe, speak, sleep or even eat, and all the while not on a chemo floor with them trying to figure out who was taking care of me. The surgeon, the oncologist, or the pulmonologist. Ok, I vented, please tell me it will get easier! PLEASE I am trying so had to stay positive. I am much better today and ready to eat a real meal so I guess it does get better. It seems I just keep getting all the complications and side effects. On good note, The port is the new power port where you can get your scan dye and isotope injections through also. very small incision, 1 in nice sewing job, and it does work well.     Patty, Stay positive. It will get better. I will keep you in my prayers. I too had Murphy's law but not for nurses during my chemo I found out I'm allergic to the anti nausea drug (mainstay one) which is rare and I can't remember the name. I didn't know and lucky for me my medical caseworker called I couldn't talk right my tongue was swollen. After that all went perfect no more complications. Keep positive and laugh alot I became a joker during treatment :-). God Bless. Lynn

    Well you certainly have been having an adventure with your treatment! I have had some complications - none from the chemo - extra things like you had. It gets better - don't let it get you down - a positive attitude does more to make your body respond than anything. My prayers are with you - its going to be ok.

    God has the whole world in His hands, yet he has counted each hair on your head (yes, even as they fell out...He knows just how many to replace and where to put each one). He is taking care of you now too. Faith is the evidence of things hoped for and the manifestation of things unseen. I will pray that he makes His care more tangible so that faith is easier.

    I am so much better today, last week just seems a memory. I got thru it. I am back to my positive upbeat self. I will not only be a cancer survivor I will be a thriver Patty B

    Glad to hear it!! I think the extreme emotional ups and downs are part of this journey we are all on too.
