Hi All. Just a quick note to say I am having surgery tomorrow to remove a lung met. It will be my 4th surgery since diagnosis (stage 3 rectal) and my third to remove a lung met. Ho hum. I'm trying, as usual, to focus on the positive side: once again, they detected this solitary met when it was small and amenable to surgery. My surgeon is fantastic and the best. I've had uncomplicated and good recoveries previously from surgery. I guess there will come a time when they cannot keep hacking away pieces of my lung -- but I ain't there yet! I am going into this very fit and healthy (I've been hill-walking regularly). MY PLAN is to be out of hospital in about 5 days and START WALKING. I'm also planning to go on vacacation with my family one month after the surgery (!). Of course I realize plans may need to shift a little -- but I find it is useful to have a few goals in mind (oh, and I will be looking gorgeous when I go on that vacation ha ha. Never mind that my scars now make me look like a Rand McNally road atlas....I wear them with pride!
Please do send prayers my way this week.....

Dear Tara
Your courage is an inspiration. I will light a candle for you in York Minster (England's largest cathedral, where my daughter is a chorister).
Good luck and all the very best, Catherine0 -
Tara,
Best of luck with your surgery. I'm also a hill-walker. I was prior to cancer and I continue as a cancer survivor. Right now I'm cancer free (stage IV, dx 9/04, at age 48). I've had a liver resection and my left lower lobe of my lung removed. I had a recurrence in my left lung this past year and had a RFA done instead of surgery. There's a lot of lung to hack away, as I'm told. Keep us posted and enjoy your vacation.
