I just finished treatment with gemzar and it didn't work. My doctor has suggested we try doxil. I have read it has some pretty bad side effects. Especially on the heart and the hand and foot syndrome. Did any of you out there have any bad side effects from the doxil? And did you loose your hair?

Hi,
I had 6 cycles of doxil and I did pretty well on it. I did not lose my hair either!! You have to avoid heat and anything tight when on Doxil. I would wear super loose clothes,no bra or socks. No hot showers, coffee or food. Nothing spicy either. For at least 5 days. I drank alot of ice water and chewed on ice chips. I did get a rash to my legs and hips, but you do have to sit down sometime!!! No nausea,a little exhaustion. Also my ca-125 never went down at all on all 6 cycles. After I had finsihed 6 cycles~~~30 days later it fell to 10..and 3 months later it went to 5. Doxil is escapulated in a fat bubble..so it takes time for the fat bubble to wear away and the Doxil to actually hit the system. Goos luck~~~Joanne0 -
I did not do well on doxil, I had a very bad reaction. I really don't think that summer is a good time to take that drug. I'm so positive(ha ha), I'm sorry, but I did not do well and it did not bring down my ca-125. I am now on Topotecan.
Remember everyone is different you may do well on it sounds like it was great for Joanne.
Good Luck and God Bless, Jan
Oh yeah I didn't loose my hair either.0 -
Follow all the preventive tips and you should do okay. DO NOT WAIT until you start having the side affects. Eat ice during infusion, use cold packs on hands and feet, use eucerin cream(original) wear lose fitting clothes and you should do alright. I don't think I've heard of anyone losing their hair while on this one. My ca125 came down slowly and it did give me a 3 month chemo break. Good luck ~ sending prayers N hugs your way. Bonnie0
