4 Years Remission Papillary Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is scarry especially when you do not know a thing about it. My family and I googled so much about this disease but nothing tells you how to deal with the radation pill, how people treat you after they find out you have cancer, your life turned upside down from blood test, scans and then the lifetime treatment of the pill to replace the thyroid'
Myself I take life day by day and talk alot to my family and god I try and keep a positive attitude.
If you are new to this cancer and just found out you have it ask questions, cry if you need to, just remember one thing, thyroid cancer is so treatable all my doctors told me if you had to choose a cancer thyroid is the one you want.
Oh yes how did I get papillary thyroid cancer well X-Rays did me in all the radation and the thyroid not being covered up. Alawys tell your family and friends no matter what the x-ray is tell them to have the thyroid covered up and protected radation causes cancer cells to grow especially in the thyroid.
It takes time to get your life back to some kind of normal but you will just have patience and talk to family, friends and the lord.

    why do you get the pill? My sister has to have the shot and another question, did you get a percentage of survival rate? my sister's is 30 percent after the rad shot on friday. today Wed is her first trip for the thyroid shot...

    I take the thyroid pill to replace my thyroid since all my thyroid was taken out.
    My survival rate is 100% doctor says cancer may come back but the higher the dosage of the thyroid pill the less chance the cancer will come back. I do not want to be blunt but if your sisters survival rate is only 30% did they get all of her cancer out and has she had a second opinion. Never leave anything thing out when it comes to theis cancer check all your options and ask doctor questions.

    Hi I was diagnosed 17 years ago. I also believe my thyroid cancer came from excessive x-rays. I had alot of dental work as a child.

    I agree, ask lots of questions and demand answers. I am a 10 year survivor on Thursay. Things sure do change after something like cancer don't thet. I love your dog, i have 3 one is a lab, the others are husky great dane mix and a yellowlab pit bull mix. Animals are a great thing to have when recovering they provide lots of love and all the closeness and cudding you need when no one else is around.

    I just found out I have thyroid cancer and I had a total thyroidectomy on 9/5. I am scheduled to have my RAI treatment soon. It is very inspirational and a relief to me to read the posts on your DB. There seem to be quite a few negative ones which are kind of difficult to swallow when I am trying to stay positive. I have two young boys (3 1/2 and 2 months) that I very much want to see grow up so I have to stay focused and positive and do what my doctor and I feel is best. What has your follow-up treatment/monitoring been like?

    Hi everybody!
    I found out 20yrs ago I cannot tell you that it has been easy, because it hasn't. No matter how many yrs pass every time I have a positive test I feel my life fall into pieces, but I look at my kids that are now 19 and 14 and I get the strength and courage that I need to take the next step. It isn't easy but as a mom I have to do it.

    2 years Papillary Tyroid Cancer
    I'm on my thyroid pill also, It took me awhile to adjust the pill dosege.It was too high or too low. It still on a higher side. I feel ok, but still tired. Do you feel tired? My doctor told me if the thyroid level is too high,it could affect the bone. Sometime I worry what will hapen next?

    advice please, first time RAI 131
    I'm about to have the RAI 131. I'm scared of vomiting. Did you get nauseated? How did you feel? What were the side affects?

    it wasn't bad at all.I don't

    it wasn't bad at all.I don't remember geting sick at all.
    i did lose some hair through it but it comes back slowly.
    hang in there and be positive and you will be fine.Goog luck!

    I will be getting 200 RAI on April the 16th.. I am a bit worried about vomiting but I am gonna pray and also, they are going to give me something to help with the nausea so maybe you will get that too.. hang in there ;-)

    No nausea
    I didn't have any trouble with the nausea but every one is different. I hate needles and they will do a pregnancy test right before you get your RAI, by drawing blood, so just a heads up. I took a lorzapam (my dr is sympathetic to my needle phobia) so some of the details are a little fuzzy but I know I didn't get sick. Something else that caught me off guard, I didn't expect to have to stay on the LID after the dose, so I wasn't prepared food wise. But my dr made me stay on it until I had my scan 5 days later. If you need any guidelines or recipes for LID, www.thyca.org has a great downloadable (free) cook book. They also have a lot of great info on what to expect. Good luck! You're almost done with the hardest part!

    I am pretty familiar with everything and I know about the cook book.. I was curious just because last time I had 131 and now is 200.. its a very higher dose
