Slurred Speech in terminal patient

My husband is now in hospice care and although he is not in any major pain or discomfort, I noticed that his speech has become slurred a bit, almost like he has had novacaine. Is this common as one nears the end?

    God Bless you. My husbands speech was not impaired towards the end, he was to weak to speak,but did open his eyes once in a while to let us know he could hear us.Stay strong and keep talking to him, every minute is a blessing.
