I just finished radaiation for vocal cord cancer about 10 days ago. I have such a itchy scratchy throat that I have to keep coughing . It drives me crazy. Is this normal? The pain medication helps with the pain and a little bit with the itchiness. I felt good all through the radiation, until the end and now I am tired and just not feeling good. Please tell me if this itchness is normal?

It is quite normal. The inside of your throat basically has 3rd degree burns that are healing, and along with the heal comes the itch. They make two different "miracle mouthwashes" One that can be swallowed, this one may be able to give you some relief.
Hope this helps and CONGRATS on being done with treatments!

Okay, that makes me feel much better, but how long does it last and where do I get this miracle mouthwash? I use Biotene mouthwash now.0

Everyone heals at different speeds, so how long it will last is hard to say. Remember this, the radiation still "cooks" you for about 2 weeks after your final treatment so you are about to turn the corner on the healing thing. Both of the mouthwashes are prescription only so you will have to talk to the Doctor about that one. Trust me, it only gets better from here! (just not as fast as you think it should) Take a few minutes to read some older posts here and you will see each of us has posted how we felt we were healing too slow, all good things come to those that wait......and all of that.jimsgirll1990 said:Okay, that makes me feel much better, but how long does it last and where do I get this miracle mouthwash?
