Post Op Condition

Had a Robotic Radical Prostatectomy done in late Sept of 2007 which was Nerve Sparing. But, still have some problems associated with operation.

Have numbing pain and some sharp pain in retum and that of penis. Spasm in Pelvic area before and after urinating which causes burning pain in penis and sharp pain to touch.
My past condition (before operation)had a condition of Interstitial Cystitis and took medication of Elmiron which worked at times.
But, my current Doctor does not believe in this condition since it is a "syndrome condition" and their is no proven cure for this medical problem.
This condition in past (before operation) did cause burning pain after urinating and burning of the pelvic area. Recently have taken Elmiron for three weeks But,did not relive condition.
Most pain comes from the left side of the Pelvic area and my Erections are nonexistent.
I am currently taking Gabapentin 300mg 2x daily for nerve pain and Ibuprofen 600mg 2x daily for muscle pain and has helped somewhat but, condition is still exsisting.

I am 64yrs old and was wondering has anybody experienced these conditions and have any information regaring medication or that of a cure to relieve my medical problems?
Any information would be appreciated.

    Dang, Roy! It sounds like your "nerve sparing" procedure wound up inflicting damage to the cavernous nerve bundle. You may have already exhausted everything, but I'd darn sure try a different course of pain management. You shouldn't have to put up with this, long term! In the event this appears be long-term disabling due to someone's robotic surgical incompetence, I'd go so far as to investigate legal recourse.

    Maybe I'm over-stating the case, but this reminds me of the bozo that performed cryoablation of the prostate on me while the box for his new cryo equipment was proably still in the dumpster. Believe me, I can relate because, like you, I was messed up with horrific, peripheral, post-op nerve damage for over a year! My condition eventually improved, but healing of nerve tissue is incredibly slow...taking months or even years.

    Hey, Roy!...forgot something. You might click the ACS logo in the upper, left-hand part of this page and copy/paste post the same thing on ACS's board. Their prostate board has a pro that will quickly give you some detail suggestions.

    When you get to the ACS page, scroll down to the left-hand bottom of the screen and there 'tis. Click on, "View all message boards." You'll have to register and get a password, but it's darn well worth it.

    Thanks for your information about posting on ACS board.
    They have given me a reply to my condition and will have more information comming in very near future.
