Quick history, white male, 46 years old,6'1, 180 pds, good physical shape, happily married with a five year old son. I was dx Dec 04 w/ stage IV CRC and liver mets(3) two on right lobe,(1) on left. Started chemo, folfox, Jan 05, did 12 doses, half way thru I had colon resection surgery. July/August 05, did 5wks of radiation and finished off my chemo. Was declared NED in 10/05. Feb/06, found one of original lesions returned on right lobe, opted for open liver surgery and the surgeon cryo'd 4cm lesion. May/06 was declared NED. I was told we'd watch closely an no additional chemo. Nov 07, cryo'd lesion must have srpung leak! Lesions returns, opted for another open surgery, surgeon elected to do right lobectomy, also noticed lesion attached itself to my diaphram. Surgeon cut out some of my diaghram and sewed back up. Surgeon later told me not to worry, diaghram and cancer don't mix well. Feb 12, 2008, got test results back from PET and CT, and there was no evidence of disease.
I have to say, getting the results today was truely excruciating! I waited an hour and a half! My oncologist walks into the my room and says "all clear" and it was like the weight of the world had fallen off my shoulders, an amazing feeling! I was more uneasy today going into this appointment than I was driving to my last surgery. As Tom Petty says, "the waiting is the hardest part". Amen!
