CT update

Stage 4,colon surgey 9/06, chemo, liver resection 2/07, chemo, lung mets and resection 11/07. Just got back from Stanford and the results from the Jan 2nd scan looked good. It was nice to come out of his office not scheduling a surgery or with a prescription to pick up. While it is a long road and the odds are still tough, my wife and I came out of there for the first time in a long time with good news, no new spots..or in the cancer world, NED (no evidence of disease). I have to go back and get more scans and they did not recommend follow up chemo at this time as there is nothing to track and any follow up would be a guess that could hinder future options. The onc said that there is no statistical advantage to trying anything at this time as a follow -up chemo. I feel good but scared not taking something. I know I follow tarahk and I tried to insist on follow up chemo with a different drug as insurance but he said its really, in his opinion, an unknown. So we'll see in a couple of months

Hi,
My doctor said the same exact thing following my lung resection at MD Anderson. There are no guarantees, but I hope it makes you feel better to know that my lung resection was in 10/04!
So, rather than feeling nervous about not doing chemo, try to feel grateful that you don't have to do it. That is how I looked at it. I didn't try to insist on chemo as a matter of fact I was thrilled that I didn't have to do it again. Take this time to change your eating habits, get in the mindset that you are cured, and exercise, if you are not already doing so.

Oh yeah, I just wanted to add, now might be a good time to speak to an N.D. about the various things you can do to prevent recurrences i.e. supplements, herbal things, and other alternatives. I have tried many different avenues that I would be happy to share if you are interested.

Great news! Congrats on the NED Hubby is also in the observation stage. I know it's a bit "scarey", but we too, do not want to have future options ruled out if needed because we were "too aggressive". Keep the faith. CELEBRATE
