Wife, 63, had total gastrectomy in August, 2007, preceeded by chemo. Currently not experiencing issues with nausea nor diarrhea. Aware of recomendations of keeping suger content low and not drinking liquids immediately before, during, and immediately after meals. However, having a lot of problems with stomach cramps, gurgling, gas and gas pressure after eating. Interested if anybody else experienced (or is experiencing) this problem and what are you doing to alleviate it; diet? Digestive aids? Does it go away with time?

You may want to contact the American Cancer Society's National Cancer Information Center for information on your wife's symptoms. They can be reached 24 hours a day at 1-800-227-2345.

    Take care and be well,

Hi- I had 1/2 stomach removed 2 years ago and finished treatment 1 1/2 years. I had pressure and gas and it did go away with time. I ate lots of organic yogurt and still do. Sugar gave me the most trouble and still does. I eat a little at a time but often.
Good luck and God Bless both of you

Hi. I had a partial gastrectomy in April 2004, followed by a complete gastrectomy in August 2005. I have the same problems your wife experiences. What helps me the most is to get up and move around during the meal and right after eating. This helps release trapped bubbles since it is much more difficult to burp. It also helps the pain to go away when I do experience stomach cramps. My doctor recommends using Gas-X. I get the kind that is a little strip that dissolves on the tongue. I'm seeing my gastroenterologist in March to see if there are any other things I can do. Good luck to your wife.
