That news and you ROCK OUT LOUD! I love it. I just read your profile and you said it best: Cancer is NOT a death sentence. So much progress has been made in such a short time. It is disappointing that many health professionals are still citing outdated statistics.
I don't now what floats your boat, but whatever it is, do it like a rock star!

Hi Taunya,
Congratulations, you have revived memories for me . I remember just prior to 5 yrs being told "you are doing well but you are not out of the woods yet!" I went back the next year and I was not very happy. I told the surgeon that I was sick and tired of the spectre of ca hanging over my head. He replied "but you are cured .In my experience if it hasn't recurred in five years ,that tumour is finished."
Like you I was lost for words. I know how you feel. I just felt so justified for everything I'd done to beat cancer. I am really proud of your achievement and so happy for you , your family and friends.
Jan 22 will be the end of ten years clear for me. I have had no further problems though I have had several polyps removed ,one of which was pre cancerous. Please stay vigilant and thoroughly enjoy having your life back. Best wishes,Ron.0 -

Taunya,
That is fantastic news and such an inspiration! I was just wondering if you could share how often you had followups after 3 years NED. I just passed that mark. I think my doctor recommended every 6 months for the next year and then one time/year. What have you done? Did you have CT scans every single time? Just curious, and once again congrats!
Enjoy the celebration,

Hi Valley, valley said:What great news! You made my day! Go out and celebrate! I can't wait till my husband is 5 years NED. He's 2 years in Jan.08 stage 3 rectal cancer. What stage were you when diagnosed? I know he still has a long road ahead of him.

My best wishes for your husband and you. I was dx with an aggressive stage 3 tumour that had invaded 6 lymph glands. I had surgery and 48 sessions of chemo over 12 mos. Jan 08 will be my tenth year ca free. I am officially considered cured and they even let me donate blood again. Again I offer my best wishes and assure you it can happen , just stay positive and focused. Ron.0 -

Thanks a bunch for the sweet words. I had check-ups every six months until four years an then it was every year until 5 and 1/2 years. I never had another ct scan. I had the cea test twice a year and initially I had x-rays, but that was only the first year. I had colonoscopies every year until year 3 and now I have to have them every 3 years. I hope this helps. Congratulations to you on 3 years!!!!! That is AWESOME.
Hugs,

I will be thinking of you and keeping you on my good thoughts list. It was hard, but it was lovely to tell the kids the news. It really was a wonderful thing to be able to say. Thank you for the kind thoughts. I can't wait for you to share that news either. Here's to the real 'c' word CURE!
Hugs,
Taunya0
