Effects Of Radiation On Shunt

My shunt failed. The doctors said it was due to prior radiation treatments I had taken nine years before. Can radiation treatments cause a shunt to fail?

    I also have a shunt due to Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and my shunt never was affected.
