I was diagnosed with papillary/follicular thyroid cancer in Sept of 2006 - total thyroidectomy and it spread to 3 of 6 lymphnodes taken out. Did the whole radioactive iodine nightmare and am due soon for the body scan and am wondering if thyrogen is a good thing to do or should I just go off the Synthroid? I want to make sure I am cancer free and don't want the thyrogen messing up the results? Any thoughts would be appreciated - thank you

Hi, I have had three Iod treatments and a CT/PET scan. For the Iod threatment I was off the Thyrax (similar to Synthroid) for about five weeks. For the CT/PET scan I received Thyrogen. I think Thyrogen for a scan is OK for Iod threatment is is not as effective. I have a great believe in the Dutch specialist for Thyroid cancer. I assume you are getting treatment in the USA?

Please do the thyrogen injections. It is so much better.Summer76 said:If your doctor gives you a choice I would recomend the thyrogen injections I've done both and going off synthroid for 6 weeks is very hard on your body . The injections are so much easier. Hope this helps. Best of Luck, Summer
