Lyrica - anyone having success with this.

Recently I met with a pain management dr. (part of me thinks these guys just try to shove as many pills down your throat or up your nose as possible). anyway, he reccomended Lyrica to help with my back pain and mentioned that it is used often for Neuropathy from chemo.

I am intested in trying since my hsnd/feet neuropathy is pretty severe. However the crap cost an arm and a leg (half the neuropathy problem solved just in buying the stuff), so i don't want to waste my money if it is not that effective. Neurontin did not work for me in the least.

I appreciate any feedback.

    Hi Mark,My Dr. prescribed Lyrica for me after I finish the chemo, because I was complaining of the neuropathy specially in my feet, I didin't suffer from that during treatment, I even bought it but before leaving the pharmacy I read all the information and it was mentioned primarily for pain,which I don't have,and I returned it, because I don't want to put more stuff in my body that I don't need,if it was to help with the numbeness probably I will take it,but again I think is more for the pain. In your case it will probably help,because your mentioning pain, my Dr. is very conservative and recomended it, sorry that I can not give feed backs with results.

    I tried to have success with Lyrica, but I felt it still made my butt look fat. So I basically opt for sweats when working out. Oh, wait, not LYCRA! lol

    So jacked up on coffee, I can't even type! That should have read "Hey MARK" Not Mary! I am trying to tie up SO many loose ends @ work that I'm literally on a caffiene high for about 4 days now!

    Hi Mark -

    I wish I could help. I know a couple of people with diabetic neuropathy and they say that Lyrica helps. My oxaliplatin neuropathy was never long term - just extremely acute and localized in the two weeks after infusion. My oncologist had me try Neurontin and it had no effect. Since I was coping (long term), we never tried Lyrica, but as I say I do know two folks with neuropathy who are being helped by it.

    OHHHHH! You said Lyrica; I thought you said lyrca, and I was going to say that whenever I wore my lycra spandex bike shorts, I had LOTS of luck - with the laydeeez. (Could have had something to do with that $10 roll of quarters I carried in the pocket)

    Hey Mark!
    I believe I posed the same question to the board some time back. I was on FOLFOX for 9 treatments until the increasing neuropathy forced me to stop in April, 2007. I then took Xeloda for 2 cycles, until June 2nd of this year. By July, the neuropathy became very severe. Not the "cold sensitive" neuropathy that I had during FOLFOX treatments. This was a constant pins and needles sensation in the fingers and feet, and a painful "stiff" feeling in my hands, toes and lower extremities, almost like arthritis. My onc prescribed Lyrica 50mg 3X/day. I took it for 6 weeks, before weaning myself off of it. I'm not sure that it did anything for the pins and needles. What I DID experience however, was a noticible swelling of my fingers, which contributed to the stiffness, and thus the pain. As of this date, the pins and needles sensation has decreased to a "tingling" sensation, and the stiffness is s-l-o-w-l-y subsiding. I'm sure this is related to "tincture of time" as I was told from the get-go. I pray that I continue to experience improvement. (I was told it can take a year, and up to 18 months.) As for yourself.......You never know what will work till you try it. If it is cost-prohibitive, check with the pain management docs. They frequently get "samples" from the supplier (Pfizer). My anesthesia group does. Hope you get some relief!
