disability, didn't qualify

Hi Everyone,
I finally went to the social security office to find out that I don't qualify for disability because I didn't work full time for 10 years before cancer. I chose to stay home with my children. I also don't qualify for SSI(low income) because I sold my house to survive and have too much money in the bank. The strange thing is that if I were of retirement age I would qualify for social security based on my x-husband, but there is nothing for someone in my situation.
I am currently living on child support and supplementing it with my savings. Both of those will eventually run out. I never had an established career so I have nothing to go back to. I was a preschool teacher on and off and I can no longer do that physically. Everytime I plan to return to school or think about possibly finding a job I end up having surgery and going back on chemo.
I'm trying to be positive and think outside the box. I've thought about trying to start a part time business from my home, but I'm not the most talented or creative person so I haven't come up with a plan yet.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas. I have a hard time believing that someone is my situation doesn't qualify for any services at all!
Take care and thanks,
Jamie

Jamie, I have nothing to say that can help other than I am sorry you have to face this crud. It is not fair that we are challanged with rules when trying to focus on healing. I hope a positive answer comes your way soon. Just keep reminding yourself, you deserve to get good news.Mark0
