He has Non-small cell lung cancer, mastisized to lymph nodes. He had an xray the year prior complaining of side pain with no cancer on the xray & was sent home. 1 year later, with the same pain, the xray shows a 5.5 centimeter on uper right lung putting pressure on the artery & major blood vesseles making it inoperable. He will have chemo next week. Is their anything else besides chemo to help him. We are very worried.0

I had a tumor in my upper right lobe that had spread to two lymph nodes that showed up on the PET scan. I had 6 weeks of chemo and radiation. The tumor had shrunk and all but disappeared. I was told that if my lymph nodes were clear of cancer that I could have surgery. I went to surgery and the first thing that the surgeon did was to check the lymph nodes-they were clear so I had surgery and have been cancer free since by the Grace of God. I had to go to surgery to find out if my lymph nodes were clear because the radiation caused them to light up on the PET scan which gave a false positive. My surgeon removed my upper right lobe, 20 lymph nodes and one rib bone. The pathology report showed no cancer in any of the specimens that were removed. Hope this helps.Roxann2 said:He has Non-small cell lung cancer, mastisized to lymph nodes. Hi.
I'm a five+ year survivor of nsclc, 3b. Initially diagnosed, in May '01 (age 67), as inoperable/incurable because the tumor (3.5 x 4.5 x 7.3 cm) was leaning against my esophagus and aorta, with no clear margin. I was treated with Cisplatin/Etoposide for chemo, once three-day cycle every four weeks, along with 55 radiation treatments 5 days/week for 11 weeks, with weekends off.
By September '01, the tumor had been shrunk by 75%, and was removed surgically in October '01, along with 40% of my right lung. I have been lung cancer free since then.
Please keep a positive attitude. Your oncologists and nurses are good at what they do!
Best wishes and prayers to you.0 -
I had stage 3b/IV lung cancer, for now I am . I was told that this would not happen, but they did not know my chief physician I was not a candidate for surgery or radiation. . You can type ernrol in the search box at top of screen, then click on any place you see ernrol to the right of screen. This will take you to my web page. If you would like more info about the things I did let me know, and I can e-mail them., or you can go to the site below that has more info.

Hi Ernrol. I'm in the UK and have been searching for positive info since my dad (56), was diagnosed with NSCLC. Stage 3b/c. He was diagnosed on 30th March. We've been told the type he has is squamous cell. It is inoperable but he will be having chemo and radiotherapy starting in about 3 weeks. I was just wondering what type of cell your cancer was. We have found your web site very encouraging. I noticed you recieved Tarceva. My dad hasnt been offered this as it is not widely available here. Do you think that it is very important he has this drug? We are going to see the chemo Drs this Wednesday. Thanks. Lis.ernrol said:I had stage 3b/IV lung cancer, for now I am .
