Pyriform sinus/hypopharyngeal cancer??

Hi Steve. Thanks for your reply. My dad was diagnosed with his carcinoma in late November. Although his cancer is located somewhat close to the larynx, it is not quite the same. It's located in a "pocket" on the side of the throat (the pyriform fossa, or sinus). Despite the slight difference in anatomical locations of your carcinomas, I would speculate that your treatments might have been similar to what my father is preparing to go through. Did you have IMRT (radiation)? Were you given chemo. along with your radiation? My dad is to receive Taxol and carboplatin once a week, along with daily IMRT. Any words of wisdom, stories of your experiences, etc. you have to offer would be appreciated. Also, I am so glad to hear things are improving for you!Steve1004 said:I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx (voice box). I'm not sure if it is the same type of carcinoma you are asking about...just in a different location.

It sounds like your Dad will be receiving a similiar treatment to my own. I had 35 radiation treatments...daily Monday through Friday...along with the same chemo drugs once a week.alm2222 said:Hi Steve. Thanks for your reply. I am now almost 4 months out of treatment and finally feeling better. It does take awhile to recuperate.
I would advise you and your Dad to be very patient. It seems to take forever to get through the treatments and to recuperate from the unavoidible side effects.
When does your Dad start his treatments? Since you are starting soon, it is important not to miss any treatments. The treatments have a cumilative effect. It is perhaps more difficult on the patient...somedays you just don't feel up to the treatment. However, it is more effective if your Dad does not miss a treatment. I would be more than happy to share any experiences with you and your Dad. I just do not want to throw too much info your way.
I know just hearing the word cancer and being told about procedures can be overwhelming.0
