Alternative therapies

My husband who was a healthy 54 year old underwent nephrectomy for kidney cancer in December. At the same time he had a piece removed from a pulmonary artery that had broken off from the tumor growing up his vena cava and lodged in the pulmonay artery. After being sent home he was again hospitalized for 3 weeks with an obstructed intestine requiring another surgery to correct and a C. difficile infection. All total he lost 40 lbs. He is on Sutent now for some spots in his lungs and another at the site where the kidney was removed.
He is doing pretty well now and seems to be having good luck warding off side effects by taking lapacho or Pau D'Arc. Does anyone else have any information or results they could share using some of the alternative therapies out there?
