Hello my name is Marilyn and my scar on my left has been hurting where my breast was removed I don't know if it is the cold weather . But since I don't have any breasts how do I know what to look for . Does any one have a problem with their scar hurting when it gets cold . I know I shouldn't let fear get me but after going through cancer twice it is hard not to if you know what I mean.

Hi Marilyn,
I'm no expert on mastectomy scars. I had my mastectomy this past September . . . . and I have NO feeling at all (completely numb) in the incision area. For peace of mind, I would definitely call your oncologist or your surgeon - or maybe BOTH - and see what they have to say about this development.
Good luck to you!

Congrat's on your survival Marilyn,
I am 10 year bc cancer survivor with double mastectomy scars and have found times that there has been deep pain in area of mastectomy scar especially on the side that was affected by the cancer. The pain is there but only lasts for a short period of time. It has been said that if pains or problems persist after a couple of weeks to a month then one should have these examined to be sure nothing is going in there. There is allot of healing that goes on for years and often nerve damage and nerve endings the cause.
Don't hesitate to go to the doctor to even ease your mind.

Me too Marilyn, but not until August, the 4 years that is.I too have pains st the surgery site, sometimes it feels as though my nipple is hurting too,of course it's not there anymore but it sure does feel like it.I've heard of these things before - it is just strange experiencing it you know. I had additional surgery last year to remove this really large solid cyst that came up on my shoulder after surgery and continued to grow.It was benign, but was right where my bra strap goes and was painful, they also removed that ,lovingly called, dog ear the surgeon left under my arm after the mastectomy. They ended up cutting me from my shoulder blade to the front part of my under arm for that one.I am so glad it is gone both of them they hurt but I have these really sharp stabbing pains sometimes right in the incision-boy - it actually feels like U are being stabbed but they don't last long and are sporatic, thank God. The cold doesn't bother my scars but it sure does make uncle arthur(arthiritis)want to do a jig...lol0

Hi Marilyn,
I did not have a mastectomy, but I know pain! What kind of pain are you having? Is it achy or sharp? Does it come and go or is it always there? These are questions your doctor will ask. If it is shooting pain that sometimes feels like electric shocks then it is probably nerve pain. If it bothers you, you should get it checked out. If the pain is actually from the breast that is no longer there (phantom pain), it doesn't make it any less real or uncomfortable.
Hugs.
