Drug induced liver damage

Has anyone who has had treatment for cancer, ended up with liver damage? I had six rounds of carboplatin/taxol for stage 3a ovarian cancer. I now have non-alcholic steatohepatitis. I am on a waiting list to see a specialist for this. I have read everything I can get my hands on, but can't seem to find what the prognosis is for this. Any one got any info?

Hi. While I don't have personal experience with this, from all that I have read there are more and more people developing this. Sometimes it stops progressing further on it's own. Sometimes it progress to cirrhosis. Do you have symptoms? Have they done a biopsy? I have not seen any kind of treatment options except that some doctors treat it as a form of diabetes. My Mom had a portion of her liver removed because the doctor though he saw something suspicious. Losing part of her liver did not affect her at all. Have you looked at any of the other boards and posed the question there? I hope someone can give you some firsthand information. I wish you the best, please keep us posted. Cindy0

I'm sorry to hear you now have to deal with this. I'm really not informed on this type of situation either, but I would recommend that you read up on Milk Thistle. It is an herb that helps to detoxify the liver and is safe. However, read it for yourself. I have taken it for about 6 years starting with my first chemo experience, and have continued to use it during this last round of chemo. All my liver enzymes are really good levels. It will not affect how your body uses the chemo, it just helps the liver to process and filter toxins (of which chemo is toxic).
Good luck and we'll keep you in prayer regarding this.
Lots of hugs!
