It is rough to know what to ask when you are first learning about a problem, esp. when it is something as serious as cancer. A tape recorder and a friend to go with you can help. I needed a bit of time to recover physically from surgery (about 3 weeks) and it took a month or so longer before I was back at the gym. But a lot depends on where your cancer is, how big it is, what they have to do to remove it, and what treatment will follow. This is a good place to pose questions as they develop. Good luck!0

The doctor told me that it can't be removed do to location pushing on air pipe between right lung. Need treatment to decrease size, I think it is 7cm in size. My wife was with me but her emotions took over and I was in recovery and just don't recall all the information. I return for after care with the surgeon on Thurs 12/14/06 waiting appt to start treatment.cabbott said:It is rough to know what to ask when you are first learning about a problem, esp. when it is something as serious as cancer. By now you have probably met with your surgeon. I daresay he will have you meet with an oncologist too. The oncologist is the one who specializes in the drug treatment of cancer while the surgeon is best at things like biopsies and surgery. There are many ways to chemically treat cancer to shrink it and keep it from causing problems as fast as it would on its own. I get a lot of support from the chat room on this web site. Many caretakers go there for support too. I did not know that my family would be a stressed as I was when I got cancer. (Maybe I was just too stressed out to notice!!!) I found lots of support at the Wellness Community, this website, the Relay for Life in our community, my friends at work, my church family, and contact with other survivors. It helps me to know I am not alone in this fight. I will be praying for you.tdbones said:The doctor told me that it can't be removed do to location pushing on air pipe between right lung. I had a large (4x5x7 cm) tumor on my lung, which was leaning against my esophagus and spine. It was inoperable upon first diagnosis. With chemo and radiation, it was reduced by 75%, and removed surgically. Read my personal web page, titled "Grateful Survivor".
Stress comes with the territory. Everyone concerned becomes stressed to one degree or another. Some handle it better than others. Try to have someone who handles stress well come with you to your appointments. Better still, bring along a small voice recorder, and record all that is said. The doctors usually have no objection to this. Then you can go over what was said. My best wishes and prayers go out to you.0
