I don't know, shirl, I always err on the side of overreaction! I just call my PCP, acknowlege that is it probably "canceritis" (you know, the thing that always lurks in the back of our minds, for no good reason even relating a back pull to cancer...), and ask for an appointment. My PCP is awsome...he just asks if anything has changed in what I am doing, etc...and away I go!
I guess I will never self-diagnose again...got me into a real mess 2 years ago, when I said that my change in bathroom habits was due to stress, and it was really a tumor in my rectum...
You know it MAY be something treatable that is NOT real serious! Ask to be referred to an orthopod...

My bone scan came back -- "we think it's arthritis." Which of course made me cry...Oh, sure, I'm thankful that they don't think it's cancer. But, I still don't have ANY answers for the persistent pain I'm in. "They" said they'd call back the next day with a "where we go from here" -- but, that was the day before T'giving, and the call never came. In the meantime, I can barely function, and this is NOT how I want to live out the rest of my life. So, I feel for you. I'm almost 4 years' out since surgery and chemo. Still on Tamoxifen. But, sincer chemo, I've developed Type 2 diabetes and now arthritis. It just doesn't seem right. Plus, "they" are still watching my liver, since my levels are elevated and continue to rise. I have to wonder what's really going on with me. So, I'd call your doctor and get him/her to really listen to your symptoms, and try to be examined to a point where they can give you a better-defined diagnosis, as well as come up with a treatment plan. If we're not proactive for our health, who will be? My doctor doesn't really listen to me...so I continue to suffer and try to push past the pain. As I speak, I'm about to go sit with my heating pad for a while...having just gotten home from 7 hours of work at the office (my office job is about all I can handle -- when I'm home, I can't do anymore for the day...NOT how I want to live...) Alas... Hang in there! It's about all we can do! Barb K.0

Hello Barb, It sounds like you are having a terrible time. I (know) I don`t hurt to where I can`t function. So the doctors (think) it is arthritis? If so don`t they do anything for your pain? As far as the liver enzymes, my sister is diabetic and also has problems with her liver enzymes going up. The doctors say she has a fatty liver and that perhaps they should in the future do a liver biopsy. My sister says no because she knows it is due to the meds she takes and that she is overweight.BBK said:My bone scan came back -- "we think it's arthritis." Oh, BBK, why are you sitting there, suffering like this? It sounds like a lot of pain!BBK said:My bone scan came back -- "we think it's arthritis." My suggestions is that you may benefit from seeing a different doctor. If your current doc isn't listening and hasn't called you, as planned, to follow up, then it's time to see someone who is interested in listening to you as well as following up. Not doing so, is unforgivable when your doctor surely has no question about your level of discomfort and inability to function well.
Please get thyself in to see another doc! You deserve far better care.
I'm not sure about this "thinking" it's arthritis...the goal is to KNOW. Perhaps the question: "Well, if it isn't arthritis, then what else could it be, that's seen on scans" question, may get some kind of answer about what the doctor is thinking. Typically, hots spots showing up on scans, suspected as being arthrtis, can be better dx'd as arthritis or not arthritis, with simple follow up tests, usually including xrays.
Let us know how it's going and I hope you get some answers soon.
