Terminal Liver Cancer

I was wondering what symptoms are expected for someone with terminal liver cancer that is nearing death. What is expected as the disease takes its toll during the last month or weeks of life?

A close family friend just passed away from liver cancer and during his final day, his heart rate increased significantly and he developed a fever. Is this normal? What could be the possible causes for this?

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    This is Betsy from the colorectal survivor's board. I have Stage IV CRC with liver met. I realize it is not the same disease.

    However, my mother-in-law died from liver cancer in 1985. I am almost hesitant to mention this, because treatments were so different then. However, I just wanted to let you know that she did not experience what you are asking about. She went into the hospital for chemo (placed directly in the liver, required hospitalization) and while she was doing well, her liver enzymes took a sudden turn for the worse and she died two days later.

    I only have experience with one person who died of liver cancer, but, I can tell you that his heart rate was significantly elevated for about two weeks before he passed away and the thermometer we used was giving such varied readings that we started referring to it as a random number generator. He was tired and he had no appetite. The last few days he was increasingly disoriented.

    I don't know what the symtoms are, but I am fighting along side my spouse whom is fighting terminal liver cancer. We have had our revolving doors stays at the hospital. My spouse's heart raced and had fever, chills, and vomiting.He is getting stronger.I really can't say if this is normal or not, nothing pertaining to cancer seems normal to me. Prays, faith, and compassion outweigh any treatments. Hang in there, your friend will always be with you in your heart.
