HI! I grew up in Tacoma, but I live in Louisville, KY now...how's that for a jump? I'm an "almost" 5 yr survivor of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. When i was still in treatment, I met several other survivors from Wa in the chat rooms here. You might try looking in the personal web pages to find someone close to you. If you haven't done so already, contact the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and ask for a "First Connection" match. www.lls.org The society will match you up with someone who has had your type of cancer, similar age, same sex, etc. This person will then contact you to talk about what is going on in your life and will bring you encouragement. You could probably specifically ask for s/o in your area. I volunteer for this program and feel blessed to have had an opportunity to help others. Blood cancers are a hard thing to deal with and the treatment is even worse, but there is alot of hope and high survival rates for your type of cancer, with it now considered to be one of the most curable forms of cancer. I think the biggest obsticle for people in our age range (I was 33 at dx, am now 38) is adjusting to our "new normal". I'm not the same person physically as I was prior to leukemia. I have had a number of long-term late effects, but it gets easier as the years go by and my strength increases, etc. I'm still here and that is what I try to focus on -- being here for myself, my husband and my son. If you ever want to chat, email me on this site! Blessings, tiggertoo
